A friend stands to lose everything. He went way out on a limb for some people, invented something, trusted them to pay as agreed. They did not. It's devastated him. There is a LOT of money involved.
Enough so that it is ruining his life and crushing his family. He tried to forget about it, go get another job, let God deal with the other side, but it is a terrible job market so that is not working. He sold family heirlooms to pay the bills so far, but that is all gone now. He tried to get a new job but it's a really tough job market.
Satan is having a field day with him now. If no weapon fashioned against us can stand, then why is this man being cut to ribbons?
He has tried to let Go and let God, but God lets this other company get rich even while not paying what is due. The stress is tearing up his family. He has a good contract, but it will take at least a year, and a WHOLE LOTTA MONEY to fight in court. He does not even have the money to file. Bill collectors call every day. Lawsuits are threatened.
His family supports him but they are too freaked to be very good at it. People keep telling him to let go and let God. But God does not do anything.
His house is built on the rock. The winds blow. It has not gone down yet, but....... The end is in sight.
He refuses the counsel of Job's friends, who say, surely you did this to yourself and only need to confess your sin. He confesses to being a sinner saved by grace, clothed in the righteousness of Christ.
Scripture says God's children will be blessed, and will never have to beg bread. He cannot understand why God does not deliver him. He does not expect a bed of roses from his walk, but he expects God to keep his promises in Jeremiah 29:11. "For I know the plans I have for you", sayeth the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future".
Can you give me anything to give this friend to help bolster his hope ?
BTW: He really knows the bible and is still depressed. Most verses or standard words of encouragement now sound like empty platitudes to him. Fraid he is slipping into depression. Do real christians get depressed?
