  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Did you know that in the Far East- that the position of having one's hands folded together at one's heart is the position of openness- one that signals an openess to divinity?

Now I know that might be a little new agey-- but methinks the tradition of that particular position is one that goes way, way back and is meant to quiet the body and make the soul receptive to God.

As I train my children to stand that way at Mass- I am trying to explain to them to have their hands folded and at their hearts and to point wherever it is the "action" is (eg-the altar, the pulpit, etc.) That this helps their hearts to be focused on the Mass. I have also been trying to help them learn that once they train their bodies to stand this way, then their minds will wander far less, because they will no longer have to fight against what their bodies are doing. They will be sort of quietly attentive in their posture, so that they will be free to fully participate with all of their beings at the Holy Sacrifice of the MAss.
