Kymberlee Anne Schopper of Deltona was charged with trading in human tissue, according to the Orange City Police Department.

Schopper was released Friday from the Volusia County Jail on $7,500 bond.

This law may have Constitutionality problems.

Some religions use human bones as a symbol and reminder of mortality, such as Vajrayana or Tibetan Buddhism. Bones are used for prayer beads or ritual flutes.

That's very interesting. Not to go off topic, but I thought cremation was pretty much universal in Buddhism and other Eastern religions.

Ick. I find that disrespectful, in my opinion. Leave the remains alone.

Cremation is not universal in Buddhism. Other methods of disposing of the human body are acceptable and permitted. In places like Tibet, there are so few trees that cremation is not customary, and the ground makes burial difficult. It takes a great deal of energy to burn a human body. So they have a practice called sky burial, which involves birds consuming a human corpse on a charnal ground so that only bones remain (Zoroastrians also traditionally had a similar practice, but did so for different reasons: the earth is sacred and shouldn't be polluted by death).

Also, just as in Catholicism, many forms of Buddhism have the practice of keeping relics. Just as Catholics traditionally believe in 'incorruptible saints' and displaying them at sites of pilgrimage, some Buddhist sects have the practice of having mummified corpses as a kind of whole-body relic. This occurs throughout the Buddhist world, from Thailand to Japan.

You can read in the Bible about early Catholics keeping relics:
Acts 19:11-12 And God did extraordinary miracles by the hands of Paul, so that handkerchiefs or aprons were carried away from his body to the sick, and diseases left them and the evil spirits came out of them. Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition

I'm not a Catholic. I just believe the government shouldn't interfere with the free exercise of religion, even if I don't adhere to the particular religion.

Ah, yes. I remember hearing about sky burial. Apparently one man witnessed it, it was so brutal, he almost threw up.

Thanks for your immense knowledge!

Blessings!
