  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Should I take the creationists seriously? It's just as silly.
Are we talking about creation now?

Added: By the way if you seen the video it pointed out that something that's traveling close to the speed of light the earth would appear to be flat.

The Flat earth myth was started by those who trying to claimed anyone of a different view (creationist / ID)are silly.

It's really quite simple.

Picture a guy walking to the edge of the moon in those pictures and falling off into the abyss of space.

You can literally see the curvature of the moon. Especially on the right side of the photos where there is less light. You can see where the moon curves back like a sphere should. Its a great picture of the 3d spherical nature of the moon. I know you're just trolling but please be more observant and thoughtful in your posts.

Sorry, I don't see what you're seeing.

But let me give you the benefit of a doubt and say that we are looking down on a curved mound of real estate in space.

Sort of like placing a bowl upside down on the table and looking down at it from overhead.

If the height of this plano-convex piece of real estate in space is only ... say ... one mile high in the center, then again, a man walking down off this one-mile high "mountain" and out to the edge will fall off into the abyss of space.

Thus you have your sphere your talking about, as well as the flatness you're asking about.

In my previous example, try using a saucer, instead of a bowl, and maybe that'll help.

No need. This is photographic evidence showing the curvature of the moon. If you can't see it, then there's no need for a continued discussion. Thanks.

First of all, a photograph is two-dimensional.

I can photograph the globe in the corner of my room all I want, and it's not going to look like a sphere.

Second of all, I agree with you that the moon has curvature -- the same way a pancake has curvature.

And just because something has curvature, doesn't mean it can't be flatter than a pancake.

Seriously these are the coolest glasses ever.

How they work:

http://enchroma.com/technology/

Short version, when someone has red/green color blindness the problem is usually due to overlapping of red and green reactions of ones rods. The glasses take out a "chunk" of wavelengths in the middle making it more likely that your red rods will fire for only reddish light and your green rods only fire for greenish light.

I've always thought the moon looked very flat. If you watch it swing around the sky year after year, you might also notice that the features never change. There are not many spheroid shaped objects you can whip around your head and never see a new side of it. Not even a LITTLE back and forth motion.

That's about as unspheroid a property as you can find in the entire cosmos. I've just about convinced myself it's a pancake just thinking about it.

All of that is nice but in the OP there actually some pictures showing the curvature of the moon. Did you miss those?

Sub, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think these pictures show the spherical shape of the moon. On the right side where there is less light reflection you can clearly see certain features bent as if they are on a sphere. You can see the profiles of impact craters. Apparently me and one other poster are the only ones who have seen it.
