If I punish myself and the problem still remains and I cease to quit I'd need to question what I'm getting out of it. The practice isn't a remedy. So why do I continue?

so, can you explain this conundrum to me??

God says dont sin. We try not to sin, but fail. Some of us do the same sin daily. We know its a sin, we want to stop, but we cant. So we pray, and repent, and pray some more, and repent some more. And yet, we still continue to sin. How do we fix this??

The steps of a man are established by the LORD, when he delights in his way; though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the LORD upholds his hand. —Psalm 37:23-24

Understand? :)

I think so, but if God doesnt want us to sin, and we pray daily for help to remove that sinful desire, and He hasnt, then i have to assume that i am/have done something wrong either in my prayer, or my repentance isnt genuine.

God doesnt do evil, so if He hasnt removed a sinful desire from me, despite years of asking for that one thing daily, i have to assume im doing something else wrong. And i have no idea what it is, and this is where despair comes from, not being able to identify our own worst problems.

He wants you to lean on Him. You'll never be perfect in this state. He's looking at your heart and intentions. The effort makes all the difference. If you didn't care that's a problem.

Much like the image, we walk the straight and narrow. It's a difficult path as you see. But we're not alone. He's the safety net we don't perceive.

Keep the picture and look it when you struggle. :)

Is self flagellation sinful if used to stop from willful sinning?? If it helps an addict from using, is the end result worth it??

DO NOT SELF HARM.
And if this is something that is a struggle, please seek help.

God is not honored by inflicting harm upon ourselves. We do not mortify our flesh by inflicting harm on ourselves, but by repentance.

On your knees and with bittersweet tears, before God honestly, that is how you drown the old man and mortify your flesh, not by inflicting harm upon yourself.

God loves you.
God will always love you.
God will never stop loving you.

God is love, and He loves you.
Rejoice in His love.

Your sins are forgiven.
