  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I Just saw Solomon's post w/ a man stepping on the flag.

People desecrating their own flag chap my hide.. so it made me wonder
what you would do if you were in authority to do something about it.

Would you smile & say "eh, it's free speech" or..
would you do something negative?
:holy:

That photo is William Ayres. I believe that I would have him prosecuted for treason and have him put away from society.

But what has happened? He has been called a hero by some and then had the great education system of this land bestow a professorship on him and then allow him to teach. What a travesty of justice that is. Solomon knew all too well what people were like and the legal system. He said in proverbs "Don't be surprised when you don't see justice in the courts." And that is surely the way of the world.

yep

I heard a study by Perry Stone about God's judgments & when He steps in and intervenes...
one of the very last sins that God condemned was lack of justice to the people.
Once you lose that, the people are trampled over.

There's still some justice thank the Lord! But I do see alot of trouble - we know several cases personally that are unjust and ruined 2 mens lives.

This is an area of fine lines and difficult issues. In general the right of free speech was not meant to protect sedition and at various times in our history the government has enacted anti-sedition laws.

Sedition is incitment of resistance or insurrection against a lawful authority. The key there is lawful authority. In other words if a government is acting within the law, it is sedition to incite resistance to it.
It should also be noted that a lawful government is not bound only by its own laws, but also by the law of nature. So if a government legalized killing a certain ethnic sect for example.. they would still be acting outside the law because they are violating the law of nature.

If people incite resistance or rebellion against a government which is within it's lawful authority.. then they can and probably should be punnished for sedition.

Any area that deals with political speech is especially touchy though because its too easy for the government to over-step.. so its better to err on the side of caution and freedom.

That's nuts. Seriously. ^ It's just a man making a point. I don't care for the kingdoms of this world tbh. I can see some wisdom in the amish/mennonite separatists.

Well Ayres in particular is not just into desecrating flags.. he was once upon a time also into blowing things up. (ie he was a terrorist back in the 60's). Personally I'd say he's still a terrorist, in a sense.. except instead of recking destruction by blowing up buildings... he's now doing his utmost to destroy America through the classroom.

Right on. Like making Timothy McVey a Professor at Yale.
