  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I Just saw Solomon's post w/ a man stepping on the flag.

People desecrating their own flag chap my hide.. so it made me wonder
what you would do if you were in authority to do something about it.

Would you smile & say "eh, it's free speech" or..
would you do something negative?

It is free speech, and it is a big deal.
The world has been blessed to have America. Those who are working against American influence in the world as it has existed for the past century expecially ought to be careful about what they wish for.

Consider the alternatives. Consider the two other up and coming world powers, the totalitarian capitalist of China, or the Islamofascist jihadists for examples. Consider how might treat you if you defame their symbols, if you make cartoons fo Mohammed maybe.

Bill Ayers has been working long and hard to make up for his regret for not having bombed enough in his Weatherman. His infleunce in radical education was well funded by Obama's chairmanship on certain charitable boards. Certainly the fortunes that have been spent on his education programs have not raised the gpa's up on iota, but they may well be successful in other area that he is more interested in, such as the continuance of the revolution through the hearts and minds of the next generation.

We may live to see how well freedoms to denigrate state symbols will fare under the all-pervasive state that his socialism will bring, if he is ultimately successful.

It is a big dea this freedom of speech. We can even talk ourselves out of the idea that such freedom has any value.

It's one thing to love your country, it's another to attach that much meaning to an icon. But the beautiful thing is that we have the right to view it differently. To me, the desire to persecute people because they "desecrate" it is to become more like Iran or Syria.

i know i'm going to get raked over the coals for this lol but honestly? that sort of thing doesn't happen here much but i really wouldn't care too much. I love my country too but i don't consider something like that a personal attack on me because i'm Canadian.

More often than not though that sort of thing is a statement and an act of protest against the current government not a statement to declare to the world that they hate their country (in fact many people who do that i would imagine *do* love their country or they wouldn't take the time to stage such a strong protest and risk alienation and persecution in the process), so my view is let them have their freedom to act out and if it actually does get the governments attention then cool. i'd consider it more of a sad statement than anything that any citizen in any free country would feel that they would have to do something like that to feel like their concerns would be heard by the government though, and i'd wonder why the proper channels aren't working. especially if it became a regular occurance.

Yeah, we could make them tag along with the Boy Scouts when they plant flags on the graves of American soldiers who gave their lives to protect these people's right to burn the flag.

I don't really care usually. I suppose someone burning the flag because they hate Americans would bug me a little more than someone doing it because they hate America. I can't say I'm especially fond of it, but I won't get my panties in a bunch.
FTR I'm no patriot.

The picture of Bill Ayers, btw, is his response to 9/11.

3000 people die, and Ayers wipes his feet on the flag of the 3000 dead Americans
He bombed the Pentagon too. His only regret is that he didn't do more.

Islamofascists and the American Left of Ayers share the same dream.

I guess you have to be american to care...
To be honest, it's a piece of cloth.... I really wouldn't feel strongly about it.. even were it the Union flag.. it's a symbol of some things I love and some I hate.. and anyone is entitled to express their opinion as they see fit, as long as they are not harming anyone else.
