• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi everyone !

I would like to ask you : do you think it's normal to have his country's flag in the church ?

I've often heard that it's a common thing in the USA ? Is it the same in Canada ? Should it be the same in other countries ?

If so, why do you have a flag in your church ? What does it represent ? What does it add to God Glory in the service ?

our church is real big on doing Missionary work. We travel to all parts of the world. Even to the worst persecuted areas. Ever time we go we raise the flag in our church to claim them for Christ. On our ceiling,we have alot of flags,it's very touching to know that thousands have been reached due to our Missionary workers. Those flags are reminders that Christ today, can reach even those far beyond the shores.

Ministers who preach while standing next to the American flag have gotten their political views all mixed up with their religion and it makes it difficult for them to condemn immoral behavior on the part of the government for this reason.A good example is what is currently happening in the Metodist Church which George Bush belongs to.Leaders of the church are demanding that he repent for the sins he is daily commiting with American bodies and blood in Iraq but he refuses to do so.The church has ministers who preach their sermons standing next to the American flag who are not enforcing the call to repentance made by church leaders and welcome him to their churches without ever discussing his sin with him.

Those who practice American flag Christianity fail to realize the historical fact that the United States is one of the most sin-filled nations in the entire history of the world. They seem to be totally blind to the fact that if God does not soon destroy the United States,He will have to admit that He made a big mistake when He destroyed Sodom.

We don't have the Union Flag in church, and I can't remember if we ever fly it, (I seem to recall it was up for the millenium), but the England flag goes up on the outside of the tower on some "special" days, particularly I remember St. George's day it's up.

I suppose it's a bit odd really, but I haven't given it much thought and can't decide how to vote here!

I love the way some of your churches out flags up to remind you to pray and support mission work.

The only time we have anything resembling a flag inside church is the monthly "parade" service, youth groups bring their banners in - things like Girl Guide and Scouting groups. I'm not sure what the purpose behind it is though. (That's Anglcans for you - lots of strange goings-on kept from ages past!)

God bless, Susana

That's a fine idea !

That's not nationalism, as having just one flag in the church...

I don't think it should be normal for americans that they can have a flag in their church, if it is not for chinese (red flag) or turkish (muslim symbol)...

I'm patriotic but I'd have to question why a church near me would need to fly a Scotland flag if they did that. I don't hink there is any need for it. Maybe flags of lots of different countries but not my own. And certainly not American. It seems that in the US, everything has a flag draped over it and it's kinda...I dunno...vulgar.

Yes. I'm asked to come and minister in a lot of churches of all sorts of denoms throughout the year and nearly all of them have flags.

If so, why do you have a flag in your church?

To honor our nation and to memorialize those who's sacrifices make it possible for us to have the freedom to worship.
What does it add to God Glory in the service?
I don't know that it adds or detracts anything.

I do not care for flags in the sanctuary, or anywhere else in church, for that matter. I am proud to be a citizen the the US, but when I go to church, my nationality is unimiportant and it certainly should not be the focus of anything.

We attended a church for awhile that would festoon itself with hundreds of US flags around patriotic holidays. We took to staying home. We were uncomfortable with it, but mostly, we did not want our children confusing God and country.
