  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The inquisition played a big part in the UK's 'undisputed national dish of Great Britain'.

It was so popular even Winston Churchill exempted it from rationing during the war.

Jews fleeing the 'convert or be expelled' Portuguese Monarchy went first to Spain and then to England to escape bringing with them a popular food prepared for Sabbath, lightly fried fish.

It became popular with both Jews and Catholics who had for centuries not eaten warm blooded animals on Friday.

This was later paired with 'chips' once the potato made its' way into the daily diet and has been a staple of English cuisine ever since.

How Fish and Chips Migrated to Great Britain

The fried fish was introduced by Jews fleeing religious persecution.

The English fishing fleets were the cradle of the Royal Navy. At the height of the days of sail the crown mandated three fish days a week so that there would always be a supply of sailors for the navy. And in my limited experience 'fish and chips' has reached its modern perfection in Newfoundland.

As it happened, we had fish and chips today, quite unexpectedly. I had just put a jacket potato in the oven when my son in law came in and said "I'm going to get fish and chips, do you want some? "So I rapidly took my potato out of the oven and said "Yes please." I asked for haddock, but he got me an O.A.P's cod and chips.

As long as it isn't Alaskan Pollock. F&C requires a firmly fleshed fish not jello.

One of my favorite meals to be sure. Cod or haddock are the best, grouper here in Florida is always a good choice for a local fish. I loath when they try and use something like tilapia. uch.
