First name thread, if you dare??????

Well, my given name is Cheryl, but I don't go by that. Everyone calls me Cheri. Blame my parents- they started it right after I was born. I really wish they had just named me Cheri- would have been easier!

My name was outed a while back (not intentionally), and I think since then even I've posted it a few times, so you all know. As far as where it came from, I think my mom read a lot of romance novels. My sisters also have uncommon names.

My real name is Angela.......but don't ever call me that, or I'll have some sort of fit over it like you have never seen. It's way too prissy of a name for me. I don't mind other folks having that name, though.
Everyone who knows me (except my mother) calls me Angie or Ang.....which I very much prefer.

Same name as my sister. We don't call her by her first name either. Usually we call her Angie or Ang (which has an implied "e" such that the "g" makes the same sound as "j")

I'm kinda the same way about my given name. While there is nothing wrong with the name Cheryl , I am just not used to being called that and EVERYBODY calls me Cheri (except for a couple teachers in elementary school- the ones I didn't like!) I don't even sign my checks with my given name, but recently I became Treasurer of a group and I have to sign my given name on those checks, which is hard to remember!

I'm with your husband. I have this strange thing about not using realnames online, so even in emails I'll slip and call my husband Hunter (much to the confusion of his family until I explained it), and our daughter knows that she is Gem online (her initials). I've been synger so long I've answered to it IRL. It's even the name I put on my badge at SF conventions.

I love your name. *smiles* My first Lutheran friend, in junior college, was a Kenneth Charles. He gave me my first Small Catechism, and took me to his church (LCMS) where we lived in Michigan. He was one of my best friends. He'd probably be tickled pink to know I'd converted to Lutheranism.

Makes me want to send him a note to see how he's doing. I havne't talked to him in over 20 years.

I don't give my last name or my address (or my social security number - even though I have Lifelock!) but there are probably thousands of guys named Josiah in my State so knowing my first name and state says NOTHING about me. I've even googled Josiah and California and (surprisingly) nothing shows up for many, many pages - and by then, no one would make a connection. Now, I could google Josiah and some other things - and I pop up at the top of the list, but I don't reveal those things online.
