My first was a Timex Sinclair 1000. Had a wopping 8K of ram and no other storage media. Not much larger than a calculator.

A few years later I picked up a Commodore 64C and a matching floppy disk drive for it.

My First PC was an Amstrad 512. 512 megs of ram and dual 5 1/4 floppies no HD AT processor. No idea now what the speed was but was quite a biut slower than the slowest 286 and only had the 4 color CGA setup. Came with Dos 2.2 I think.

My first computer was a Packard Bell With a 200Mhz Pentium I MMX, 32MB (uprgraded to 128MB) of ram. It was given to me by my sister and brother-in-law in 2002 when they bought a new computer.

Also when I was a kid my grandmother gave me a Commodore, I think it was a VIC-20, but sadly we couldn't get it to work.

My first was a commodore 64. All floppy discs. My favorite program was GEO's it had everythign on it. My first internet type computer was a 486 with 8 MB of RAM, a 14.4 modem, and I believe a 500MB HD.

A few years back I stopped to visit a friend. She was all hysterical and glad to see me because her husband had brought home a computer "because we have to fit with the times", and she had no idea what to do with it, but knew that I knew about them. She showed me - it was a C64 with ALL the accessories - tape disk, cartridges, tons of software. I just started laughing because they collected antiques, and told her that it fit right in.

She didn't appreciate my humor.

I wasn't aware that people actually considered the Commodore 64 to be a computer. Was it? I remember playing video games on the C64 my dad bought when I was a very young kid, but that's about it. As far as I recall it wasn't used for anything else. I've very fond memories of that machine though...

Oregon Trail was for elementary school kids... by college we had HALO 3!

We played Oregon Trail in elementary school. They told us it was educational. They told us we would come to appreciate the brave pioneering spirit of the early settlers moving west. But all my guys kept cowardly dying of dysentery.

That was part fo Commodores problem. Many people thought of thier systems as a game rather than a computer. The fact is that they were a computer that played games very well. The Commodore Amiga was ahead of it's time but also was viewed by many as a gaming console. Bad marketing by commodore. They were good computers.

Same here. I dabbled a bit on the Sinclair and then wrote on a C64 for about a year before moving on to IBM Clones and MS-Dos.

I liked the old Commodore Basic.

Did you also do the programing from the Magazines?
Programming is where I first learned to type.

Or drowning because of charging ahead and trying to ford the river.

Cowardly drowning because of charging ahead and trying to ford the river. Yes, I remember that, too.

Yep..

I remember writing what seemed like 1000s of comma seperated numbers and then running the program only to get a message "Error in data" and points me to the line where the read data statement was at. Usually somewhere in those 100s of lines of numbers was a period in place of a comma. I thought I would go blind looking for them sometimes.

When I was still at school my father bought a state of the art P3 233mhz computer, but I was part of an ignorant bunch of friends who thought computers were for nerds :D So I didn't learn how to use it, it just sat there and dad would play solitaire because he never learned how to use it either. When I went to university I bought my first computer AMD Athlon 1.6Ghz with 512MB ram and 80GB hard drive, this was built by a friend of mine and cost $3,000. I used it with Windows XP for close on ten years before my friend convinced me to upgrade and I built my current computer which is an Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz with 6GB ram and 2.5TB HDD - that's nuts and it runs sweet!

Mine was a dreadful E-Machine. Thing was horrible. Slow Celeron processor didn't help matters any...
Was one of the ones that finally had the power supply blown up (faulty parts). Fried the whole thing.
