First Computer You've Owned?

My family had an Atari 520ST. Not many people had those! It had a sweet GUI on it called GEM...Graphics Environment Manager.
It was just like a Mac. lol

Also the Atari 2600 will live forever is greatness.


Now the first computer I myself owned I built myself at work in a PC tech shop. The case was off an old Head Start server. I bought the AT-based motherboard new and it had an AMD K6-2 400 mHz cpu and probably 64 mb ram. A spiffy new AGP video card with 8 mb video ram! And the rest was used parts I think.
I finally gave that one away recently to be recycled. The end of an era!

Amstrad PCW 8256, got it for xmas 1985 I think. The thing was basically a business machine but it had a few games available. Really bad (4 MHz processor) but looking back I loved the thing... Especially playing Batman

Oh yes. I burned many an hour on one of those. Tetris, Super Mario...yeah.

My first was an Acorn BBC Micro, 32K 4 Mhz. About 1984. Into Basic and assembler. Learnt a lot from it. Compare with latest - 2.7 Ghz, 10 Gbyte quad core i7. Mainframe I used in 1975 onwards had less power than my current machine!

It's a good bet that your current machine has more power than the first Cray Supercomputers (and quite a few that followed it)

It was put into the school's science fair, and students and parents who went through the exhibit completely destroyed it. I thought the whole experience was pretty boring, and not long thereafter, I started reading Shakespeare.

Mac Mini? They work with your existing peripherals.

My first computer was bought circa 1995, it was a Hewlett-Packard 486DX2 66Mhz, with I think an 8GB HD. I think it had Windows 3.1 and it had MS DOS. We've had 4 desktops and 3 laptops since then.

In college we had Apple II's and I loved the Oregon Trail game.

I found a sealed copy of 3.1 in a huge trash pile at work a few years ago. With the manual! I still have it.

Me too. I was looking for a home computer and went to an exhibition where they were showing a prototype and I thought - that's the one. I ordered one but had to wait months before I actually got it.
