You're right, an attack is an attack and fatalities are fatalities, no matter what the date.
But the terrorist might chose to attack on that date as a message that their tyranny is more powerful than our freedom.

Yeah, but I'm not going to let these people scare me too much (although I would stay out of crowded places for a while-just in case these terrorists do, on the outside chance, have some sort of "doomsday device" like a chemical or nuclear weapon 
)
Also, the level of "chatter" from al-Qaeda is at the level it was the month before September 11th.
