  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The handgun I'd most want to carry is a .357 gold plated Desert Eagle.

Yes, its a bit ostentatious, but please point me to the criminal who, upon seeing this hanging from my Dockers Clutch or my shoulder holster is still going to want to mess with me...

I don't need the .44 or .50ae, that's over kill in the extreme for me! Why put a softball size hole in what you're shooting when a golfball size hole does the job just as well!

You've quite the collection~I've heard good things about .357 Sig though it's still on the "obscure" side of things~~10mm would be the "obscure" caliber of choice for me. When choosing between the Beretta & Taurus I decided I liked the slide mounted switch over the frame mount though never heard much bad about the Taurus model other than the time the gunshop owner said he sold one, and the guy had problems at the range with accuracy and it turned out Taurus send an unrifled barrel lol.
My obscure caliber is 7.62x25 for my CZ 52. A secondary obscure caliber is .32 S&W Short for an old S&W revolver that was my mother-in-law's. My Taurus is reasonably accurate, 100% reliable, and I have enough 18rd magazines to make me want to keep it. I put Hogue grips o n it asap.

I had Handall on my Beretta for awhile but ended up with some regular rubber grips on it~even on my revolvers I go with Pachmayr "Presentation" style, couldn't get my fingers to match anyone's "finger groove" style, got big paws here lol. I like nice figured wood (have some nice Hogue wood on my Ruger MkII SS) but can't beat rubber.
I have Hogue grips on most of my handguns. I have several Gen 2 Glocks with Hogue Handall grips. My Sig 1911 feels too good as is, but I did buy a Hogue grip for my Colt but haven't changed it yet.

I hear you about GI sights~Novak-style sights are pretty nice-my problem is that I have bifocals/progressive lenses and it's not as much fun at the range as it used to be---wish I could afford Crimson Trace on all my handguns and some kind of Aimpoint/Trijicon sort of thing on my .44 Mag lever action.
I have progressives too, so I feel your pain. Some of my guns have rails, most do not. I do have a couple with night sights. As for Crimson Trace, I'd have to win the Lottery to outfit all my guns.

I'm actually downsizing my collection now, sold off a Ruger .44 Redhawk a couple months ago and going to trade off a .32 Beretta for a second-hand 870 or Mossberg sometime.
My wife wanted a shotgun but that was before she broke her shoulder. With medical bills to be paid off, I think 2013 will be a year without buying a new gun. My gun wish list will just have to wait.

Sorry to interject in the middle of this thread. I don't even know exactly what it is we're talking about...

I'm worried about my ability to own a shotgun. I am worried that if I ever seek therapy for anything, like going to a psychologist for something and they diagnose me with anything like Depression, Anxiety, or Aspergers, that this will go against me if I want to protect myself with a shotgun. I'm a strong 2nd Amendment supporter but I've been suicidal during my life, but without the actual guts to carry out anything. I want to be able to defend myself but I don't want anything regarding mental health to be on my record. What do you guys make of this? My brother and father are strongly encouraging me to seek therapy for things I'm going through, but they are on the Left side of the spectrum and it's pointless to even talk to them about this concern. I talked to someone else about this today and she had the gall to tell me that I could try other forms of self-defense instead of a gun. I wanted to get really angry at her, I almost did, but I held back.

I'd love to fire one and also a .500 s&w but sure wouldn't care to own them lol

I wouldn't even know where to start, I'm sorry for your troubles I know some folk in similar situations and understand a bit how hard it is and as far as firearms someone wiser will have to advise.

Yeah it's tiny. But the advantage is I don't have to dress a certain way to carry my gun.

The advantage of being a big guy I can hide the Beretta under an untucked tshirt...plus the changes in PA carry laws means if I'm "made" it's not a crime..we're allowed open carry here :)

What would be on your wish list?
My short wish list would include the following handguns:

  • Sig P-238 (.380 ACP)
  • Smith & Wesson Model 60 (.357 Mag.) with an exposed hammer
  • CZ-75B (Compact, 9 mm)
  • Glock 32 (.357 Sig)
  • Uberti or other Colt SAA (.45 LC)
  • Sig 1911 Commander with Night Sights (.45 ACP)
Oh, if I find a Yugoslavian or Polish Tokarev (7.62x25), a Colt 1908 (.380 ACP), or something else of interest (that screams buy me), I'll have to revise my list. I have a long list too but that is always changing.

Rifles I am more interested in one I can put a scope on. My distance eyesight requires a scope. I'd like M1A but I can't justify it.

I find myself trying to streamline and you are headed the other direction~my Model 60 is a .38, I would expect a .357 in that size would be a handful of muzzle blast, flash, and recoil (not that it's a bad thing ;) ). I'm attracted to the M1A too but they're pricey to be sure...just saw in a gun forum I frequent a local guy with a good deal on a Benelli Nova Tactical..restraining myself...

I got into guns later than most people. I don't shoot as much as I'd like, but I generally like guns with a kick. (Except, of course, the Beretta 950BS .25 ASP).

1911's are nice, though I prefer the shorter Commander frame. It's a subjective thing, it just "feels" better to me.

I carry a Browning Hi-Power 9mm and/or a Makarov.

I'm happy that I live in a "shall issue" concealed carry state.

I bought my first Commander length 1911, a Colt, earlier in the year. I still haven't shot it but I like the balance. I have an Argentinian Hi-Power that I really like. It's one of the most pleasant guns to shoot, and very accurate besides. But when I carry, it's almost always a Glock 27 in .40 S&W. It's lightweight and easy to conceal. I almost bought a Russian Makarov once but the gun store owner talked me out of it. He was very opinionated but never steered me wrong. I still look at them at gun shows, prefering a Bulgarian or East German model.

I own one metal detector from detectorall.com and when I went to the beach I always took it there and it can give me some surprises. and I also can take it to the park to or find the metal goods, such as coins and so on. It has also helped find the ring that I lost in the garden, this is really great.
