Yeah. Are you familiar with the OFA? Orthopedic Foundation for Animals? They have board vets all over the country that check the hips and elbows on dogs and give them a rating based on the loose or tight fit of the ball of the joint into the socket to prevent hip and elbow dysplasia from permeating breeding lines (that's why if you are looking for a dog most dog people will tell you to check and make sure that the parents have had their OFA and other health clearances done and to see the original copies of the certificates from the breeder.) Kahaus (my male) has OFA excellent hips and, aside from a weak rear, he's great structurally, so he was a very sought-after stud for many years (mostly before I got him when he was three). He's going on six now, and in a breed where the average life span is 6-9, he's gettin' up in years, so he's getting the "big snip" as soon as we have the money (which is not cheap for 110 lb, 6 year old dog).
Conformation shows (which would be like Westminster) are no longer about the betterment of the health of the dogs, IMO, so I don't really bother with them. Performance (obedience, agility, rally obedience, etc.) is what I try to do with my dogs, though it isn't a big focus of mine lately, with school and all. I really am not too interested in breeding as I don't feel it benefits the dogs any longer either. Too much inbreeding. It is apart of my family heritage, however, so even though I might not breed my dogs personally, I'm probably never going to be out of the breeding world.
I want to learn more about ministry and how that sort of thing is run and set up as I am interested in setting up a canine ministry using dog training, dog grooming, and trained and certified therapy animals and handlers to benefit the community via my church. (Our church has the whole set up for creating ministry from within the church staff, but the cool thing is that most of our ministries have started by people in the church saying, "Here is what we are going to do and we would like to do it as a church activity with your blessing, but we are going to do whether you allow us classifications as a ministry or not..."

)
So was that a novella or what?
God bless,
Lissa
