  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This past weekend was fun. Someone decided that it would be great to pull the fire alarm at 4 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. I think we need a Drunk Alarm sometimes.

Of course, this still doesn't beat the time a couple years ago when someone thought it would be a good idea to set an industrial-sized roll of toilet paper on fire. I have great respect for the campus safety officer who ran out with that over his head and stomped it out.

Does anyone have any stories or thoughts about this inevitable part of the college dorm experience?

Well I wasn't in college then, but one of my friends told me that last year when it was negative 20 degrees outside, some lovely person decided to pull the fire alarm at something like 3am. However, this wasn't the worst of it. The bad part is, they did it again half an hour later. Needless to say everyone was extremely exhausted the next morning, and not very happy.

Well in addition to the lovely fire alarms we are also blessed with "door alarms". So if someone goes out the door in the basement of the stair (right next to my room) a *slightly* muted version of the fire alarm goes off. grrrr. so we trot across the building to the front desk to tell them to come turn it off. oh the joy!

Oh yes... fire alarms. I thought fire alarms in HS during lunch period was bad until I went to college. 2am, 3am, 4am fire alarms with an 8am class that day. Oh it was just great. It has taught me a few things though: 1. Shower in the AM and 2. write a letter to the president of the school telling him/her to make it mandatory for freshman to know how to cook before they use any electrical appliances in the kitchen. One of the fire alarms was caused by burned popcorn.
