You lost me back at "Halo bible"...It is not fan-fiction, it is taken directly rom the Halo bible and didn't create the universe but explained it, and I never said that they were directly associated with the game, but the storyline IS in the books.
That might be a nice collection compared to your classmates, but it's far from complete. You still haven't "seen a lot" compared to many of us. You aren't impressing your school friends here with your hand-me-down collection and gifts from your parents. And sure, I'd like to list the game systems I not just have played on but own. XBOX, XBOX 360, dreamcast, N64, Super nes, gamecube, ps2, atari gamestick thing, the sega system thing(don't renember it's name), PS1, and of course PC. I have been playing video games since I was 3, my dad did, and I would watch him, then try them out when he went to work.
That's true. I've read the Milmarillon myself. Yet, I would not consider it if I were to do a critique on the LoTR movies or games. They are seperate, altough complimentary, entities. It's the same with Halo. This is the games section, and most people in here don't care about these side stories. That's why there's some hostility here (one reason!). The forum for that is elsewhere. On the subject of the book/game connection..
I find that having read the Silmarillion (a book about the history of the world of Lord of the Rings) enhances the experience of reading LotR itself, because LotR is filled with little references to the Silmarillion. Things like a little song about Beren and Luthien, and the Silmarillion has the entire 100 page tale about those people. Seeing things like that is cool.
True, but you cannot include extra materials like this to claims of *Halo is the best thing to happen to the gaming community." The books have nothing to do with the gaming community. They have to do with the Halo fan community. Although related, they are not the same. I would also say that The Silmarillion has nothing to do with the film communities, other than perhaps a footnote.I think that when done in that way, a book can also enrich a game. I have no idea how it's done in the Halo games/books, but in-game references to events in the book would certainly enhance the game for me.
You are obviuosly not following Halo 3, it has alot more than just being prettier, they've changed gameplay, added new features, new vehichles that actually do make the game more fun, huger levels, more in-depth and larger scale campaign, blah-blah blah. There is twice the difference between Halo 2 and 3 than there was between Halo 1 and 2.
Have you even played the beta?!!!!!!!!!! And here's more on the campaign, which actually is going to be better than multiplayer, but campaign ends after a while.

I've read the article in EGM, it looks amazing, and my friend played it because he knows some guys at bungie, actually my dad's friend.
can't believe you people are getting upset over a video game.
just for the record, pudits have already said that Halo 3 will be bigger than any movie opening and will set the bar for all video games. if you disagree, well, then hard cheese.
Ok, we close the thread, but no it's not speculation, just look at bungie.net, it isn't my opinion, it's th things they promise for the game, and experience playing the beta, and my dad's friend HAS played it.
I don't really care if you don't like it, my eyes are open, and Halo's not a medicore game at all, and I have played alot of games, that was just the list that I owned, I played every single one that is in blokbuster too, except playboy, which I'm not going to.
But yeah, we should end this discussion, I didn't mean for this to get hostile.

It's not just for the 360! Anyway, that's not really a fair comparison to Halo. They're completely different sorts of games.Elder Scrolls Oblivion for 360 has way more depth than any Halo game, no.3 included.
Agreed, for the most part.Personally RPG are not my cup of tea, but Halo offers absolutely nothing new. At least games like The Darkness, Bioshock and perhaps Mass Effect (although I'm yet to be convinced by that one) bring something new to the table.
Yes, prettier is a word.If you completed both Halo 1&2 then 3 is pretty much just the same, except of course it looks prettier (is there such a word?)
He think he was mainly comparing Halo 3 to other games outside of the Halo series. You are obviuosly not following Halo 3, it has alot more than just being prettier, they've changed gameplay, added new features, new vehichles that actually do make the game more fun, huger levels, more in-depth and larger scale campaign, blah-blah blah. I love this thread. Thank you for writing that! You reminded me why I love reading internet forums.Ravendta said:Set the bar for all video games? Are you saying that all games in the future will be based on the shoot/reload/repeat formula? That all games will have mediocre stories and average graphics? That all games will be hyped so much by the fanboys that people buy it simply because they are told it's the best despite the fact that it isn't? If so, then the gaming industry is doomed.
How will it set the bar? Can't set the bar graphics-wise. The PS3 already has plenty of stuff either on shelves or on the way that rivals and surpasses that of Halo 3. Metal Gear Solid 4 looks on par with Halo 3, and Final Fantasy XIII surpasses it in just about every way. (No, I'm not Sony fanboy. I don't own a PS3, nor do I plan to anytime soon. I've got plenty of gripes with Sony about their strategy with the PS3, but I will admit that their graphics are incredible on many titles.)
Certainly won't set the bar storyline wise. The first two were pretty much the same: Fight the covenant, fight the flood, escape. The story of Halo 3 would have to be something amazingly intricate with plenty of twists and turns along the way and a few surprises (the Chief partnering up with that covenant guy from 2 - I forgot his name - will NOT be a surprise, nor can it even really be considered a twist since it is a repeated formula in many MANY games to have heros and villains team up to fight for the same cause). To "set the bar" the story would have to be something completely revolutionary in order to trump some of the stories of the action/adventure games and RPGs out there.
It may set a bar sales wise, but that has little bearing on the quality of the game, as so many have said already. Plenty of games out there have sold well because people bought into the hype. I've bought plenty of games in the past that were popular that I ended up selling to Funcoland or Gamestop because they were horrible. Sales don't equal quality. As far as your "bigger than any movie opening" analogy, that matters even less. You know why? Because the average movie-goer pays $10 a movie. The average gamer pays $60 for a 360 game. The 1 to 1 ratio already puts the advantage in the Xbox column. The analogy doesn't work.
And I'm not upset over a video game, but I'll admit that I get a bit irritated when someone makes accusations toward me that are entirely baseless and false while at the same time stating their own opinion as fact. I merely stated that I found Halo to be repetitive and boring back on page 2, and I get this 12 year old kid here telling me that I obviously haven't played it (when I've played through and finished both) and that if I had then I'd know it was amazing. It's like he somehow thinks I'm not entitled to my opinion. And even when he says, "This is just my opinion" he follows it up with phrases saying, "You really can't say that. . ." which basically implies that I have no right to say anything which contradicts his OPINION - and that's all that it is, despite what he says in the middle of his post on page 3 - "but Halo 3 will be the best in most ways, not just an opinion." And then he tries to impress me by listing all the games he's played (which is less than a quarter of the number I own, but I saw no reason to mention that before I decided to write this paragraph) as though it somehow makes his opinion matter more than mine because, as he said, those of us who disagree with him need to "Think next time you say LIMITED gaming experience." Then, as I tried to bring this thing to a close, he's gotta take a shot like, "I don't really care if you don't like it, my eyes are open, and Halo's not a medicore game at all." I see, so his eyes are open, which makes mine closed? Because I don't agree with his obsession? The analogy of open eyes indicates an open acceptance of truth and reality, and to insinuate that mine are closed is, again, like saying, "You're blind to the awesomeness of my beloved Halo. Maybe one day your ignorance will be washed away and your eyes will be open." It's insulting, invalidating, and most certainly uncalled for - especially when I was trying to end this debate by agreeing to disagree, and instead I get that kinda garbage from from some 12 year old child.
I'm not upset over a game. I'm upset that this arrogant kid somehow thinks his opinion is the only one that matters. He'll acknowledge that it's nothing more than his opinion, and then follow it by telling us that we don't know what we're talking about, have obviously never played the stupid games (which, again, we have) which is pretty much accusing us of lying over something so stupid just to make his obsession with the dumb game clearer. His arrogance invalidates any opinions he may have, in my eyes, because all he does is attack those of us who don't agree with baseless arguments and needless accusations.
There, I said it.
I feel better.
