Fingerprint ID
Aug 05 2003 09:39AM
Sony's FIU-600 Puppy fingerprint identity device with Net Nanny software provides a convenient option to safeguard, monitor, and filter access to desktop PCs, Web sites and other critical applications.
The new fingerprint identity device and software will help parents and small business owners set-up controls to applications and online content for multiple PCs -- all protected by a user's unique fingerprint, not a potentially compromised password.
According to Evans, parents and small business owners are often forced to compromise security and privacy as they share the same computer with others. He said that Sony's fingerprint technology eliminates the need to remember passwords and uniquely matches users' fingerprints to saved versions within the device, allowing every user to login with a quality unique to each person - his or her fingertip.
Net Nanny software provides users with a broad set of Internet tools. It allows customized settings for different levels of access to various users. And, because access to information is via a user's fingerprint, the device cannot be fooled. As a result, it is easy for parents and small business owners to control access to online content, prevent unauthorized Internet activity on the computer, safeguard user privacy, and monitor online activity for an individual and/or a group of users.
"We are extremely pleased that the world's first Internet filtering software will now have even greater impact with Sony's identity management expertise," said Andrew Tull, executive vice president of sales and marketing for BioNet Systems, LLC, the developers of Net Nanny software. "This is a winning combination of software and hardware technology that will build on Net Nanny's ease of use by parents and responsible adults concerned with protecting children online."
Growing Portfolio of Fingerprint Products
The FIU-600 device with Net Nanny software is part of Sony's growing line of fingerprint identity products for applications that extend from the home to a large enterprise. Another model, the FIU-710, is ideal for large-scale enterprises for securing applications and other corporate information.
