  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Actually, we moved here about 3 years ago and my parents went to the post office and a guy from our church overheard them talking about how we had just moved here and he invited us to church...we went and loved it. Over the years, I have tried 3 different churches and actually attended one other for about a half of a year, but nothing really compared to Calvary Baptist...so I kept going back. I love our church.

Actually my friend from Anatomy invited me to this new church. It's an Assembly of God one (pentecostal) so I had my doubts about it. But after going to church that day and seeing their choir I absolutely loved it. That night I went back to their church and I joined their choir that SAME night. And I've been going back ever since and I've been extremely active.

I called a guy I hadn't spoken to for 3 months, out of the blue. I don't know why I thought of him. I just did. Asked him for a ride, and have been going ever since. I think it was God that made me think of him.

BTW it is the second church where I felt at home. The first church, my parents left 7 years ago and I had to go with them.

BTW pray about this. Hard. Churches aren't meant for you to come and go as you wish.

I had phonce call from a pastor who was planting a new church who told me that God knocked him to the ground and told him about the church structure and gave him my name for one of the roles....., I needed to check it out for myself, it took me two years to agree with the confirmation I was getting and move there.

However, I think it is important to look at the 'destination' of the church, do you agree with their vision? do you have a heart for the same things? I wanted a bible believing, no compromise church that was outreaching to the community, my church is heading there!

I found my church through a partnership network that our church is involved in. I just got involved in it, didn't look back. Now I am on the worship team, and going to be one of the head directors in our creative arts department.

Just pray about what church you should join. You should join a church that believes the same way you do- and can properly fit your vision.

Good luck!

When my family and I moved in 1984, we tried over ten churches until six-to-eight months later, we went to Valley Grove and loved it and that is the church I got saved at three times with the third being the real, real, one. But then some people, or so my parents thought that when they were talking among themselves and not to us went to another church that has now over 3,000 people that the former church we went to for a year, even though my brother was saved for real this time because he felt as a nine year old, he didn't do it right the first time, I felt out of place and so did my sister and her husband back then of two years. Then we went back to Valley Grove with open arms and been there ever since. What really gets to me is that even though a church isn't a place and/or better yet, the place to socialize and all about learning Christ, I don't like it when church members talk amongest church members and feel you are left out in the cold.

Nope, it's not just you, Ruth. I can't seem to find a church where I feel at home. The people seem to be really cold and unwelcoming in a lot of the churches I have visited. I just wish I could find a good, smaller church, with friendly folks who are eager to learn more about God. *sigh*

go around and look for a church that is BIBLE BELIEVING preaches the bible and lives and abides by the bible. a church that doesn't use the bible has strayed from God's word and is not a good place for a Christian to be.

I like this advice. ^

My family and I have also had a hard time finding good churches in the past, but the funny thing is that right now I'm trying to decide between two that I like. But that's a subject for a different time.

Some sources for finding good candidate churches are the phone book, other christians you know (even if you don't know them very well), and the internet. I have used all three of these sources on different occations. Also, if you have been to a church you liked in a different place, you might investigate whether there are any associated churches in your area.
