After reviewing acknowledgments of God from all 50 state constitutions,
one is faced with the prospect that maybe, just maybe, the ACLU and the
federal courts are WRONG!

We, the people of the Confederate States, each State acting in its sovereign and independent character, in order to form a permanent federal government, establish justice, insure domestic tranquillity, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity — invoking the favor and guidance of Almighty God — do ordain and establish this Constitution for the Confederate States of America

There is NO "separation of church and state" in the Constitution. That phrase came from another letter by (I believe Thomas Jefferson). The Constitution simply guarantees freedom OF (not FROM) religion.

The First Amendment of the Constitution--"Congress whall make no law respecting an estabishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;". I believe that some of the states already had established religions at the time.
