• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Finally, some Rational people...

I just came back from RaptureReady. All I can really say is... Wow. I have never met anybody so blindly obsessed with Death as those people. Trying to speak rationally and carry on a conversation with them is next to impossible. All you get in return is an "I'll pray for you" or "You're going to hell", or if I'm lucky, a slew of bible quotes and biased opinions that do nothing to answer one's questions about 'EVILution' and biology.

It seems this Forum is much more tolerant of personal opinion and free thought. I might just stick around. :)

Hooray! Somewhere to debate Evolution without being slammed with threats of torment and hellfire! ^_^

But anywho... Who all here is for Atheistic evolution? Theistic evolution? Just curious.

One here for it being just the theory of evolution, where no theological nuances are needed, just like any other theory.

By the way, you're going to burn in Hell for all eternity. Why? Beats me, just seemed like the thing to say ;)

RR is on my daily visit list as well. never joined, since it would only take a few posts for me to get banned. I particularly like the way they will jump on a piece of fiction (such as the Obama healing miracles) which was written as satire, and think it the truth.

Why is it that the deeper you go into fundy-hood, the less discernment you have?

I saw one of them complaining about the Prioress' tale from Chaucer, as though it was relating an actual event.

When I read a Rapture Ready quote of FSTDT, I often get the urge to join and start debating.

But then I read some of the posts, and realise what a waste of time that would be.

I'm for atheistic evolution, btw. Mother Nature kicks bum.

I lasted about 90 posts there. What really ground my gears at the time I was there was they kept getting scared over the research formulated by one of my professors (simulating a black hole singularity (technically a white-hole singularity) using pulses of light).

Now, I know I'm a scientist but I would have thought "pulses of light" would have been a pretty big effing clue that my professor wasn't trying to create an ACTUAL BLACK HOLE. But oh no, as soon as they saw "black hole" they were off, claiming that the antiChrist was going to store his enemies in the black holes (I wish I was kidding...). I attempted to politely correct them, but all I got back was much suspicion and lots of "be wary of college professors".

Oh and apparently global warming is good for the planet, and will help all those in the Third World get more food (in the course of that debate, I even had one guy tell me that those in the Third World just needed to find jobs).

Yup, that entire site is a pretty good example of hick stupidity, religiosity, prejudice and paranoia at its worst.

Blackrend, did you have the same username at RR? Wouldn't mind stopping back to see what you wrote.

Edit: Oh, and theistic evolution for me.

Agnostic Evolution? Never even thought of that one. Though I guess it makes more sense than Atheist/Theist evolution if you think about it. Cuz in the long run, none of us really know.

I'm actually borderline Agnostic, but I consider myself atheist because I have no faith in a God. Not saying there isn't one, I just don't believe in him/her/it. :p

Ugh. I know. I just love how they think that Obama is the bloody AntiChrist or something, simply because of the mass number of followers he attracts. The Fundies at RR take any world event and interpret it as a sign of the coming apocalypse. Worse yet, they're actually excited about it. >_<

I made an account there too... I decided to pose as a Christian (I was 99% sure they would ban me for even mentioning that I was an Atheist) and ask some honest questions about what they believe. Big mistake. They saw through my disguise almost instantly. The first post I made was something regarding Homosexuality in Animals. I basically said that humans are animals too, and we experience the same biological urges, but that humans have God's gift of Logic and Reason to help cope with such urges (The last part was to let them know I was also 'fundie').

My responses were varied, from "The bible has the answers you seek. Go read it", to "Human and animal homosexuality have almost nothing in common", and finally "You completely contradicted yourself by saying that human/animals being biologically similar, but that we have also God's gift of knowledge." (Damn. I would have been better off stating that I WAS atheist)

So yeah. Enough of that. Issues like Homosexuality shouldn't be dealt with with scripture, but with actual reasoning. And I clearly wasn't going to get the answer I was searching for.

For the record, I'm not gay. It's just a question I wanted to hear answered from a theist perspective. :\

<sarcasm> Also, humans are not animals. Just thought I'd point that out. </sarcasm>

If you're atheist/agnostic/something other than evangelical... You'll get your ass kicked. You can't possibly put on a big enough disguise unless you're an ex-fundie who has the Bible memorized cover-to-cover.

Check my #9 post on this forum. You can see how far debating with them will get you... Of course it was my own fault for not being honest with them and myself. But they pretty much scare all non-Christians off with their barrage of Hell-threats and Bible beatings.

FSTDT is a great site. I love reading the ones where people wake up at 3AM thinking they hear the sound of a shofar. Some lady said she was sitting at home alone and then jumped out of her chair and began hooting and hollering for Jesus to come. I can't remember where I found the post, but I submitted it to FSTDT. Hopefully it will be up soon. =P

And yes, mother nature is indeed awesome. ^_^ I've always thought that a long and detailed, yet falsifiable description of how Earth's creatures came to be is much more satisfying than just "GODDIDIT". :p

Sigh, i WISH I knew more about Physics and Cosmology... Evolution grabbed my attention the most, so that's what I spend most of my time researching. Do you happen to know any noob-friendly sites that would help me learn more about the Universe and such? I hate getting into a debate and then get slammed with a question I don't know. And apparently, not knowing something off the top of my head is proof that 'God did it'...

But anywho, while on RR I decided to be an @$$hat and post a question that I'd HOPED would get them fired up. I made a completely false statement that Christianity is the most abundant faith, and then said something like, "If christians inherited the earth, what would we do with all the atheists, liberals, and nonbelievers?" :p

It didn't work, I'm afraid. I had failed to attract anyone who thinks we should be string up by our ankles and beat over the head with a crucifix... Even though I'm pretty sure that's what they'd like to see. I'd heard enough insanity from RaptureTards that I almost expected an insane response. I then asked a illegitimate question while still trying to 'act' christian (see post #9 on this forum), but still got shot down.

My name on that forum was AlphaOmega (lulz). Figured 'Blackrend' would make me sound like a Satanist or something. Now THAT would have been entertaining...

And that guy who told you Third World people need to find places to work? He's probably just paranoid that they'll come to America instead and TAKE OUR JERBS!!!1!

I strongly recommend Hyperphysics. Good for getting a brief overall summary of important topics, and the maths is well explained too. There should be some cosmology in the astrophysics section.

Yeah, they're pretty wise to people sneaking in and stirring things up, it would seem. I think that may have been largely due to a few boards in the past having competitions to see how quickly (or slowly) it would take someone to get banhammered.

I generally did try to stick to my own opinions while phrasing them as noncontroversially as possible. There are a few people there who are green and pro-science, but they're few and far between.

My name on that forum was AlphaOmega (lulz). Figured 'Blackrend' would make me sound like a Satanist or something. Now THAT would have been entertaining...

I took my usual name of Cabal, largely because I'm a Command & Conquer fan but also to help unsettle any nearby conspiracy theorist loon.

Don't take it too literally. I'm just an agnostic who also believes in evolution. I have absolutely no misgivings about it.

I started feeling sort of sorry for you, but I had been thinking Rapture Ready was an actual event of some kind and you actually had to deal with them in the flesh.

Next insult.

You should have been warned. Those concerend with the rapture have a bad track record. Personally I have to wonder about the very idea of 'Rapture Ready' for any but children. What does it say about an adult that is concerned specifically about being ready for the rapture. I say this as opposed to a Christian or other person of Faith who is ready to meet their maker. That is far different, it is a person who is aware of their spirtual condition and who will likely continue to at least try to improve it while doing what their Faith requires of them in and for this world. The Rapture ready on the other hand seem to be unable to deal with this world and are looking for a clean escape. They are only ready for a rapture that solves all their problems.

No kidding. I love it when they post about how their houses are in need of repair, or their health is worsening, or their debts need paid, but most of them refuse to resolve these issues. I mean, if the Rapture is right around the corner, why bother, right?

Sigh.

I take it you haven't met everyone on the board then.:)

But in all seriousness I do find the CF evolution/creation board to be one of the best I've seen. Not really spent much time on RR but I have lurked a little bit on there.
