  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So how do i go about it. I need an MP3/WMA player of good quality, plays music only (maybe can store some info too but not much). Looking for something that doesnt break too easy (im clumsy), contains from 2GB to 5 GB - more is uneccassary, but if its within my price range...

price range = £100 to £160 (dont know the American values, but if you can help..)

Second - what software? How much? Can it convert songs from Cds to MP3/WMA?

thrid - never downloaded music in my life, i dont want to download illegally, either free with artists permission or pay. Id rather download individual songs that albums (eg - indivdual songs from the albums). Whats the best deal on prices? Id rather pay as i go than pay subscription as i cant afford that.

How much memory is this all going to take on my computer?

may have more questions later :D

EDIT: oh yeah! can i add the software to my own computer (to edit songs and sort them and convert CD songs) As i will be using my parents for the downloading. Oh - id prefer a high speed 2.0 usb tho we only have low speed AT THE MOMENT.

iPod, its the only way to go. Mine has been serving faithfully and has been amazing. If you get an iPod, iTunes is a must and offers songs for 99 cents each, which you can use a credit card or a prepaid iTunes card. iPod's are very solid, and I've dropped mine about 5-6 times and its functioning fine. What size you get will determine how much space it takes up on the computer.

For me, an iPod would be the best solution, since none of the other players support AAC/MP4 audio (to my knowledge). The only disadvantage is that it can't handle WMA (which isn't a disadvantage at all because you shouldn't be using WMA, IMHO). It's also kind of a pickle because the subscription services for legal downloading all use WMA (although I think Real uses AAC, but I'm not sure), whereas iTunes uses AAC. So unless you utilize some *ahem* special techniques *ahem*, the iPod is going to be the only thing you can use. iTunes is the only non-subscription-fee music service, AFAIK.

And in the UK, I believe the price for iTunes purchases is .76£ (is that 76 pence?) per song.
