Final Paper Ideas

I have to come up with some idea for my final paper for my Critical Thinking and Writing Class. It is to be an argument paper with academic research. The examples they have given is hunger, cancer, the exploitation of children in advertising.

So far I have already done papers on the following:
Business Insurance - Is your business properly insured.
Volunteering
Reading the Bible - Spiritual Development

I am stuck to come up with an idea and I have to have my thesis statement and outline for the next class.

Is there a specific topic it has to be about...or do you just write a paper about anything?

Well I'll give you an idea from what I'm working on. I'm composing a paper of the molecular aspect of how HIV infects individuals. I’m pretty much researching how the virus actually infects victim’s cells and when does an infection actually take place after exposure. One of the things I’ve always thought about is the ethics behind using humans in researching HIV infections and vaccination possibilities. Is it moral to even use people who volunteer for vaccine testing when no cure is yet known? The individuals that participate would most certainly advance our knowledge of the topic, but it’s almost a certain death as of know. Many people don’t realize that it is possible to be immune to HIV. There are some Gambian prostitutes that are known to have repetitive exposures to HIV and never contract it. I think that this is an excellent topic for an argumentative paper and if you are interested in it I would love to see it

Maybe I'm too late to help you with ideas, but I'll throw them out there anyway just in case. I've written argument papers on all manner of topics. Literally, if it is an issue that can even remotely be debated, you can write an argument paper on it.

Here are some of the easier (I think so at least) examples:

Nature vs. nurture concerning gays. (Is it genetics or the raised environment that make the final product or a combination?)

The "glass ceiling" concerning women.

Obviously issues like gay marriage, abortion, immigration are hot topics.

Of course this is all coming from a sociology major so it's hard for me to think outside that box sometimes lol. You can also delve into history and even take historical events and make arguments about them. The crrusades, for example, were and still are a pretty controversial topic.

You could argue that Joseph Stalin had a greater negative effect on the world at large than did Adolf Hitler.

You could argue, or argue against, the idea that religion is behind the majority of the world's violence and unrest.

You could even argue the existence of God himself.

The possibilities are limitless really. Hopefully this helps jumpstart the brainstorming. Fortunately, ideas always came to me fast so I didn't have this problem, but hopefully I've been able to help you.
