now your talking about a good series. My favorite was FF3. The "magic" in them is obviously different then magic in the real world.

Hey! You're talking my favorite. . .actually it's a tossup for me, between 3 and 8. (I'm playing 8 again now hehe~my favorite characters in the series are Celes and Terra in 3 and Irvine and Selphie in 8~) I haven't played 9 or 10 (although I want to see what they're like but not want to buy if they are like 7, which I hated)
Yeah, I like all in that series (and the spinoff Chrono series which I hope gets a third entry) so far except for FF7.

The reason I disliked Final Fantasy 7? Go to this thread
http://www.christianforums.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=289277#post289277
and it's on about page 5 or 6 if I remember correctly, somewhere around there.

Otherwise I think it's a cool series, except when the writer tries to insert his religion of Aum.

BTW: YES, I am a Christian. That is why I have the objections that I have listed in the RPGs thread to FF7.

I love the whole series. My favourite thus far is Final Fantasy Tactics, which I am now playing for about the tenth time.
I'm Christian, but I have seen nothing really wrong with the games (besides the roving the countryside slaughtering helpless dragons for money that seems to be a staple of the series :) ).
3 could be my second favourite, or 1. I like having lots of options in my characters, so some of the games can get a bit annoying when you're stuck with characters you didn't pick yourself the whole game.

My favorites are FFIX and FFX....man, you just haven't lived until you've played Final Fantasy X! :) I've already got over two hundred hours invested in that game...

Speaking of FFIII, my husband is currently re-playing it. Funny in this brave new world of Playstation 2s and GameCubes that we still go back to the best games. :)

Oh yeah! I hated that. Especially when in FF7 you were forced to have Barret or Cid in the party. Aghhh. Tifa and Aeris were my favorite characters there (because all of their dialogue boxes weren't written from the Dictionary of Popular Blasphemy  )

I'm much more partial to Chronotrigger.

I loved Chronotrigger for the SNES (haven't played the PS version yet hehe) Have you played Chrono Cross yet? I do wonder what the third Chrono game will be. . .:)

I don´t like FF at all. A matter of taste. It was simply to "japanese" for me.

That's fine. That's why I liked it, the similarity to anime. . .:)

Squaresoft has registered the name Chrono Break, but hasn't doesn't have any plans to use it yet.

I haven't played Chrono Chross yet, but I might start it once I get done with my summer job.

IMHO, Chrono Trigger was better than Chrono Cross storyline wise.
Chrono Cross sometimes gets bogged down in pseudoreligious/pseudometaphysical babble to the point of downright annoyance (like "I don't care already! Go on with the story!") Nevertheless the character selection (by the end of the game you have 20+ characters to choose from if you followed a good walkthrough) and sidequests are the best I've seen in any RPG.
And the anime sequences are second only to the latter Final Fantasy games.

Call me old fashioned, but my favorite FF is the one that began it all: THE Final Fantasy. Come on, I mean 4-letter character names, the Sword of Adamant, Tiamat, Poison Lobsters, and Wizard Ogres ; what can beat that?!

By the way, anybody want to divulge the game systems they have? I like to collect the old ones, too (it's a hobby of mine). I currently have...

Magnavox Oddyssey
Unisonic Tournament 2000 (broken)
Atari 800 XL (pretty rare)
Atari 2600
ColecoVision (broken)
Nintendo
Sega Genesis
Sega Genesis CD
Nintendo 64
Sega Dreamcast
Playstation 2
GameCube
X-Box

(And no, I am not a game-aholic :) )

I still say FFI was the best, although way outdated.

LOL LOL LOL! The first FF game I played was II.

The game systems my sister and I have:
NES (doesn't work anymore though)
SNES (where can you find a working controller? We only have one and it's almost broken)
Gameboy original
Playstation one (that one's mine: I paid for it. The rest are hers or were gifts to both of us.)
We're planning on going 50/50 on a Gameboy Advance (I want to play Dragon Warrior II and III, Breath of Fire 1 and 2, and all the other *old* RPGs that are being rereleased for it hehe)

Hey Susan, isn't the design of the NES terrible? I mean, the cartridge slot? Did you ever do the crazy "blowing" trick (blowing on the cartridge before sticking it in the slot to make it work?). As nifty as it looks, the whole "open flap, insert game, pulli it out, blow on it, jiggle it around" design has caused more frustration than I can remember (actually, only playing Ninja Gaiden I has caused me more hair-pulling fury...stupid eagles.  )

As much as I disliked Sega, you never had to worry about their games not loading up, unlike Nintendo.   That's probably what's wrong with your system.

In Christ,

Yeah, had to do that almost all the time. AAAGH.

Actually, my Playstation one is acting up now. I only had it since 1998, and now the door "catch" (that keeps the door closed, or if it is stuck, keeps you from closing the door on the disc  ) is stuck almost half the time. I figured out how to fix it (by moving it back and forth) but also it skips on the discs sometimes now. Like you get music and a nice black screen but nothing else. (and it always seems to happen, although rarely, right after you've won the hardest battle in an RPG and before you can get to the save point LOL )

actually i was getting a bit bored with the same characters.... Cid's actually quite strong if you managed through the training.
i've played FF7 and FF8, and abandoned FF8 (not even half way through) coz it was too hard!

FF7's the cool one! :) so what's FF3 like, as you guys all say it's good?
