  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I believe that we live in an age whereby certain film genres are fast declining. Which film genres (or perhaps acting styles) do you believe are declining and do they need to go or should producers still need to find tiresome ways of repackaging the same stuff? Who are the stubborn producers and directors in Hollywood these days that refuse to let go of certain genres?

It's all over the place, man. Basically every genre has its films which are just like all the rest and those few that somehow rise above it into something new and original.

But, I'd say it has been a long time since I've seen a good action movie (except for Kill Bill). Many of the action films seem to be running on the same idea fumes (or whatever remnants are around). I'm tired of cop stories and serial killer movies. Tired. Likewise, the teen comedy has really run dry, I think. No more American Pies or remakes of older stuff (Cheaper by the Dozen). I'm also getting pretty tired of comic book/video game movies. Every once in a while one breaks through (American Splendor or X2) but for the most part, food for the fishies.

I could go on forever because there are so many bad idea and genre stuff all over the place, but I'll limit it to that, for now.

I think that covers them all, if your talking about these basic genres. There are sub genres too, like 'slapstick comedy'.

Hollywood is a business, and like any other business it is their job to make money.
Movies are extremely expensive! Halloween didn't have any real special effects to speak of, not even a drop of blood, and it costed them 100,000 to make. Back in 1978 or 9!And that is considered cheap!

What they like to do is take a block buster hit, and figure out what made it so appealing, then take that, and put it in other movies. Like if it was the story that was so great, like Jaws, they could just keep making more of that same type of story.
Anything and everything can be imitated from movies. I remember one director said something like, ' everyone steals from everyone else, no one is totally original', speaking of movie making.

So you will see common movies made every year, untill they fade. Its just like fashion
tey come and they go, but they're always replaced, with some new, fresh style.
Music is the exact same way.

As long as movies are being made, those basic genres will always be there.
