God created us in His image, and we are all created to seek Him, to seek fellowship with Him.
Whether or not one agrees that Jesus is Lord, or claims to not believe in any One God, all people have been created with the hunger for relationship with Him. All seek to fill a void that only God can fill.
I've heard it said quite aptly, that everyone is born with a God-shaped hole in their soul.
Many seek all their lives and never realize what is missing. Sadly, they try to fill up the emptiness with alcohol, or porn, or wrong relationships. Many seek to feel 'whole' by the very short burst of feeling good that comes from taking drugs, or from shopping. A new thing often brings a 'high', and a momentary sense of peace.
A momentary release from the bondage of guilt and fear which comes as a result of sin:
Many other cultures have worshipped gods in the stars, or gods in volcanoes, or gods of the weather, and have offered sacrifices to these poor imitations. Many cultures killed their own children in a desperate attempt to make things right, to feel justified.
But justification comes only from God, as many Christians have been blessed to discover!
The hole which each person born in the flesh feels, senses with all the pain of longing for what we know is there, because we have been born in the image of God Himself, can only be fed by Jesus, the true Bread.
Jesus fills the hole, makes us right and gives us Peace that only right-standing with God through Christ can give. People don't need to be judged and condemned by others; they need to be set free.
Even Jesus Himself said He didn't come to condemn but to save the world.
And then we too can say, "I am here to preach the good news, to announce release to the captives!"

People have always sought God, in one form or another. The Israelites insisted on a God they could see. Whether in the form of a golden calf, which they bowed down to and worshipped as the form that brought them out of Egypt, or whether it was insisting on manna to eat, when they had God with them (Emmanuel). They had no need for anything else, but they didn't recognize it and insisted on a poor substitute.Luke 4:17-19 (NIV)
The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:
"The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to release the oppressed,
to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.

He fills the hole in our souls with righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit:John 3:17
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
Once Believers have experienced the amazing and lovely peace and joy that come from the Holy Spirit indwelling, they learn the meaning of God's words: I desire mercy [love] and not sacrifice. Once filled with the True Bread, the hole in our souls is mended, and we are able to live victorious lives with Christ, whole and in peace (nothing broken, nothing lacking, wholeness, unity with God).John 6 (NIV)
Jesus the Bread of Life
26 Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, you are looking for me, not because you saw miraculous signs but because you ate the loaves and had your fill.
27 Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. On him God the Father has placed his seal of approval."
28 Then they asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?"
29 Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."
30 So they asked him, "What miraculous sign then will you give that we may see it and believe you? What will you do? 31 Our forefathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written: 'He gave them bread from heaven to eat.' "
32 Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world."
34"Sir," they said, "from now on give us this bread."
35Then Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.
50 But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which a man may eat and not die. 51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world."
53 Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.
And then we too can say, "I am here to preach the good news, to announce release to the captives!"
