  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hi. First off, I want to apologize if my post ends up being a repeat post and/or something people already know about/ have participated in. If so, apology offered...

In any case, I thought that this was important enough to share. Now that the political climate has shifted so drastically, the possibility that FOCA will become law has greatly increased. There is a petition against FOCA, which can be found here:

www.fightfoca.com

I just signed it and I feel a little better with myself (even though I remain overly depressed in regards to the future of the unborn). There may not be much that can be done, but I think taking some sort of stand at least means something...

(for those who don't know, FOCA, if/when passed will basically eliminate any and all small steps of progress that have been made regarding abortion during the Reagan and Bush administrations).

Thanks for the link, Paxi!

I see you removed the top picture from your siggy (the abortion one). While I appreciate what you were saying with it, I'm glad you took it off as it was quite violent.

Not that I'm sure it matters, but I am also offended by the lesbian one that you posted. Personally I'd really appreciate it if you took it off too. :)

Can tis actually help? I am very concerned that taxpayers will have to pay for this.....I am also concerned that faith based hospitals or people with morals will be forced to commit this heinous act.
The Catholic Bishops have publically stated that if FOCA passes and Catholic hospitals are forced to perform abortions, then the Church will close all Catholic hospitals in the USA. They will close them, but will not sell them. This will eliminate approximately 30% of our health care system overnight.

I've heard these claims also made on WCRF (moody radio) when they are doing their news talk show but I can't bring them up. I forgot about this until Paxi posted it but it would be nice to see something other than a petition page's claims like the actual written act.

But here's what wikipedia says:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_of_Choice_Act
Not everyone thinks wikipedia is a very accurate source for information so I will go further
http://www.usccb.org/prolife/issues/FOCA/FOCA_FactSheet08.pdf

I can't find the actual bill though. I don't know where to find it.

Wow, good for them. I imagine the SDA hospitals and others like it will follow suit. They need to get the word out to the public so that people know what they're giving up if the want this act to go ahead. Might make them think twice.

I admire their stand, but two wrongs don't make a right, but can the government really force that on the hospitals?
At the very least, they will threaten to withold federal funding. If that happens, the hospital has a choice of performing abortions or closing.

I don't think they have the financial ability to stay open without the federal funding.
