I don't know anybody who has asked me about what kind of gun to get AND what sort of field glasses should they get as well? It is almost always a last thought until you have done it enough, needed them enough, wanted to see farther than your naked eye could so that you make it a priority before you leave the house. Yet, at the range or in the field it is something you almost always reach for when on targets or the hunt. Anybody who thinks the El Cheapo 8x21 are good enough have never purchased or used a really good pair of 10x50's or better or a good spotting scope. When you have used a really GOOD setup, you know it. Recommendation..., if you are going to be out hunting or do a lot of target shooting get your own eye out there. Spend a 100.00 bill or more and make your eyes happy.

My Nikon 10x50 are clear but are a bit too big and don't spread quite wide enough for my eye set unfortunately. I've relegated them to watching the bird feeders in the yard or to carry in the car but I wouldn't really want them in the field and carry a gun or bow too. i doubt I'd find something suitable for $100. These were well over that but I got them on sale for just under $100. They're good in Maine for in the cabin and look out over the water to see what's going on out there.

More to my point you have seen what a good pair of binoculars can do for understanding your terrain, looking for downed animals..., things like that. Those cheap 8 x 21's are good if you never want to look more than a couple of hundred yards for something the size of a bull moose. Still, are certainly not much help at dusk and dawn. (The larger the objective's the more light they let in). My 10x50s are heavy too and would be more for the backpack and camp, but with the new materials available now you can get the same clarity and see a lot more a lot farther for a fraction of what we used to have to spend. In the Coast Guard we had look out glasses so large they were mounted on a pedestal on each bridge wing. Huge objectives but we could see a head bobbing in the water about 4-5 miles away in calm conditions.
