They are very entertaining. Kind of like otters. I love to see them interact with other pets. We would have one, but they say if you have other animals (i.e. cats and dogs) it is recommended to have them grow up at the same time as the other pets so that your cat or dog will not maim or kill the ferret. We already have three adult cats that would love to have a ferret for a snack. So unfortunately we will have to wait a long time til we consider getting one.

Ferrets may be cute and cuddly, but I know from experience that it's not all a bed of roses. They smell horribly, their stool is a huge mess to clean up, some of them bite (and they have REALLY sharp teeth), and they have been known to chew right through electrical cords. They are very high-maintenance (especially if they aren't litter-trained!) I suggest doing some MAJOR research on them before you consider buying one.

You can control of the smell of a ferret pretty easily. They do have sprays and such that you can use, plus don't bathe the ferret too often or the oil glands will work overtime, and the ferret will be that much smellier. Most ferrets are extremely easy to litter train, my ferret trained herself! (She's a very neat little girl). Ferrets bite in play, and you can teach them not to bite you. It's not difficult. Mine have never gone after power cords at all, not being rodents, and usually stick to the toys I've given them as well as any thing shiny.

Even when cleaned and de-glanned, my ferrets stunk to high heaven. Luckly, they were only mine for the summer. My blanket still smells. But I love the little buggers, despite all their stinkiness.

We had a problem potty training them. They were trained to go in the corner, which worked fine in their cage. However, they didn't return to their cage when it was bathroom time. They just found the nearest available corner.

I have 5 ferrets and won't give them up for anything.

We don't bathe them at all and they are not stinky. They like to run around in the bathtub when someone is in the shower and that seems to be enough. No smell. Every one of my ferrets was fixed at a very early age, so they've never been anywhere near as smelly as one I had years ago that wasn't fixed.

As far as litter training goes, it's been somewhat different than my cats. The ferrets pick the places where they want to go and I put a litterbox there for them. So far it's working.

We also have 2 cats. The cats aren't the problem, it's the ferrets. They chase the kitties around and we have to get after them for it. ha! "Stop chasing the kitty". I guess you'd have to be there.

It's also not uncommon to hear "Ebert has the screwdriver, my hair brush, etc." Then it's followed by a mad dash by everyone available to get the item back. Sometimes we win, sometimes we have to wait until he decides to rearrange and we'll see our long lost item going by again. Sometimes we get it the second time, sometimes we don't. We very often just replace the stolen treasure.

Making the bed and doing laundry have become very enjoyable. The ferrets hop around like Peppy LaPew when I'm trying to make the bed and bounce in and out of the dryer while I'm trying to empty it. Then the one ferret rides at the front of the laundry basket like a proud hood ornament while I'm bringing it to the bedroom.

I can't imagine any animal more enjoyable than my ferrets.
