  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

ok, now the inevitable joke is out of the way, fencing looks really cool. apparently fencers have the best legs out of all other sports players! and archers have the best torso. yum!
We have the best legs? *giggles* Ok! Why is that?

I have sabre fenced for six years, and it is a fine sport. I think sabre is more enjoyable than foil or epee because you are permitted to slash rather than just poke. I recently quit fencing because of the strict rules (my fencing master also left for France, leaving me with one of his adult students who had a bizarre grudge against me). So I began kendo and kyudo, which focus less on points and rules and more on training the mind and body.

We do sparring with shinai/ Bokken (bamboo /woden training swords) in my martial arts class. Great fun when your forearm or fingers get smashed. it's not really fencing, but it's in the same category I suppose. I'd like to take a class or two of actuall fencing, but there isn't one anywhere near me. =/

I've been fencing for 3 or 4 years now. Foil and epee, mainly. I love it to death, but have no time for it now that I'm in college. I plan to do I bit more play as I organize my schedule, but I probably won't be training seriously for another semester. For anyone who's curious, go ahead and give it a try. Don't be afraid, it's a blast, and safe if you just adhere to some common sense rules. What I don't like is how much different fencing is in competition than when you train (if you train the right way). Competition fencers are just sloppy. I don't enjoy watching the Olympics, or world/national tournaments. Eh, it's not dueling anymore, it's just a sport.
