BACKGROUND by Erwin
At the end of 2004, Roger, Andrew (Droobie on CF) and myself had to come up with a short movie to show at our church New Year's Eve service.
We met at my house sometime in December with our church's video camera and started brainstorming some ideas.
We ended up bringing out my wife's stuffed toys collection out of our spare bedroom which included over 50 stuffed teddy bears and animals (she has another 200 in our garage).
After Roger and myself brainstormed for an hour while Droobie had a snooze, we decided to remake the whole Lord of The Rings trilogy using stop-motion photography and my wife's stuffed toys.

The above photo shows Roger with the camera, the stuffed toys in the background, and my wife sitting and watching over her toys in amusement.
Day 1
So that one Saturday afternoon, we used that digital video camera to record scenes second-by-second.
Roger did the video recording.

In the photo above you see Roger with the camera and Droobie going through the stuffed toys.
In the end, I ended up doing all the stuffed toy and scene setting.
Droobie slept through the whole thing.

The above photo shows Droobie asleep. You can see my right foot as I took the photo using my digital camera.
Roger downloaded the scenes onto our church's G5 desktop at the end of this day.
Day 2
We met up at Droobie's house where we did 3 things.
1. We edited all the scenes in sequence using iMovie on the G5 Mac.
2. We then did sound effects using our own voices, our hands, some props and also using iMovie's inbuilt sound effects.
3. At the same time we recorded the voices.
I was the voice of Gandalf, Legolas, Aragorn, Sam, Merry & Pippin.
Droobie did the voice of Frodo, Gollum and Gimli.
Roger manned the G5 and handled iMovie.
Day 3
This was the toughest day - going through the Lord of The Rings DVD to capture the soundtrack to make them fit into the movie.
In the end, we took most of the soundtrack off the credit background music of the first movie, Fellowship of The Ring.
We also added some visual effects using iMovie.
Droobie burned the final clip (which was almost 600 Mb in size) onto a DVD.
Original release
We presented the short clip in DVD format at our church on New Year's Eve.
In fact, Droobie corrupted the original iMovie project, so the DVD version is the only master copy of our efforts.
Current release
The current web Easter 2005 release was a capture of the DVD release which was imported into Windows Movie Maker, modified by myself and saved into WMV 9 Mb 320 x 240 format for easier downloading and web streaming.
I decided to release a web version because some of the CF staff who heard about it wanted to see it, and some friends from other websites were interested to see it as well.
We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it.
