  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why is it after fasting do I feel sick after eating a good meal, and how do I prevent that from happening?

I am fasting a lot to lose weight, not for Spiritual purposes. And it is working for I am losing a lot of weight. But every time I eat something after fasting for a while, I feel really sick to my stomach. It almost makes it not worth it.

How you break a fast can be very critical, and this becomes more important the longer and more total the fast. The digestive system is in some form of shutdown and has to be awakened gradually. Generally you want to start back up with light, easily digested foods.

How long are you fasting, and how much are you eating?

Fasting should only be for a short time, unless there is some specific reason. Kind David fasted until the baby died of illness. He fasted in hopes the Lord would spare the babies life.

But unless you are facing something so dire, I would not fast for a long time.
I would say, 12 hours is about the limit.

Additionally when you decide to eat, you should be careful to limit how much you eat, directly after fasting. Whatever meal you have at the end of a fast, should be small. Then wait 4 hours, and have a regular meal.

I don't know exactly how long I have fasted but I would eat a meal in the morning and then not eat again until the next day at night. Sometimes I wouldn't eat for 20 hours.

But I think your advice is actually very good. Thank you very much for your advice.

Try to ask your doctor or a nutritionist.

Everybody is individual and every body works in a different way. I cannot fast more than 24hous, after that my body shakes, my heart beat gets to 40 bpm, I cannot sleep, my mental abilities go down etc.

Fasting can harm you, if your body says its not good for you.

Instead of fasting, try to change your food and lifestyle to be healthier.

Wow

I didn't think about that. But I will take that advice I will make sure that my body is healthy enough for me to continue fasting. I will ask my doctor.

Yeah, that is too long my friend. It's no wonder you were getting sick. Unless you have a really important reason for fasting, like your best friend in the world, is on their death bed, and you are praying for deliverance.

Start back slowly, clear liquid diet, then full liquid, then soft food, then normal food. Have your Doctor check your sugar levels too.

That’s what the docs have me do every time my body does it’s nasty thing and stops me being able to eat a while once the problems fixed. It’s the only way to be able to start eating again without being sick and starting off all over again.

Definitely recommend reintroducing food that way.

Personally I wouldn’t suggest you fast so long. Are you fasting for a specific reason? Maybe do shorter fasts more often? If it’s for weight loss maybe try a healthy eating plan and then fast between meals and overnight? It worked for my friend and she said it was the only ‘diet’ she’d ever stuck to.

All I can add is if you are doing the fasting, why not make it spiritual too? Spiritual fasting is not always about reading the bible or praying all day when you fast. It is about putting the flesh under submission, getting that boost from God. "Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Isaiah 58:6 I recommend maybe a little juice along with water as you fast too. God bless you as you work through all of this.

The programs that I've seen promoted lately recommend intermittent fasting ... eat during an 8 hour period and fast for 16. So if you start breakfast at 8 am just finish your last meal by 4 pm.

I am just starting this and it seems to be working and is pretty easy. I didn't have a hard time fasting for the 16 hours, no lack of energy and not extremely hungry.
