• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Are you depressed because of the holidays or just depressed in general ?
Is there something going on in your life that might be making your feelings of depression worse?
I agree that sometimes you can separate yourself slightly from something (the party for you) and still get an inkling of being there.
I've done that myself or rather, tend to.
What if you started on anti-depressants with a lower dosage and work up if you feel you need to. I know that I was absolutely against them till my feelings became overwhelming. I sought help and have seen some difference with the drugs. Life is still hard... sometimes seemingly too hard. Something to consider....?

I have the same question, is it the holidays only or all the time. If it's just the holidays I wouldn't use mind altering drugs for something so trasitional unless your pain is too much of course.
If it is the holidays, you defintely are not alone, just take a look at the posts of Xmas misery left and right all over the board. You know it's all too unnatural b/c we are supposed to force or will ourselves to be happy and as soon as a person does that you get the opposite effect. We expect of ourselves or think others want us to be like some Jimmy Stewart, Bing Crosby White Christmas kinda deal that's a fiction. And we simply cannot force happiness although we can be happy by not grasping at it.
I'd try focusing on Jesus, that it's the celebration of His birth and try to take the focus more of yourself.
It's a trap of being self consious about or own being and feelings and this idea we have a seperate "I" who can and should be able to control these things, as if outside ourselves; this in itself is much of the problem of depression...this attempt to control the mind when t's not really possible as there isn't that seperate "I" who controls things. I'm not saying we can't discipline the mind but not by this other "I" , this knowing that I know...this self consiouness. We need to just flow more, not put so much thought into our thoughts but simply observe them as passively as we can without judging them or trying to figure out what they mean. Much of it is just passive acceptance of self.
And again who is depressed? You. But who are 'you' You aren't your emotions any more than you are your nose :)
after all cut out all pain and you start to cut out parts of yourself and pain isn't a negative thing, but just is really and I've had so much of it in the past in so many ways. Health, then mind
God bless you and smile! :)
they rest are prob just better fakes than you anyways lol

Ya know, I'd probably do the same thing.
Everytime i get invited somewhere i
automatically think of what it will be like.
What a Bummer. I sit there and think; look at all these people having fun and
i have to feel like this.
Ya know, I'm starting to think, why shouldn't people like you and me enjoy ourselves? Just because we're feeling down doesn't mean for a couple of hours we can't enjoy the time. But i know that it is hard to do. I'm going to be praying that God give you a feeling of unity when you go somewhere the next time. Hey, fun is fun. you should have some as much as the next person.
Here's to fun and you being on the same page.:thumbs-up:
Bless You Jo1
Chuck.
