• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I hate mood swings. But what i hate just as earnestly is hormonal imbalances. My many antidepressants and mood stablizers are not doing their job. I am growing increasingly frustrated with the lability of my mood dispite mulitple combination mixes and dozens of different meds. I feel like i need to approach this perhaps as a hormonal imbalance at this point.

Only problem is the usaul medical way to handle this is with birth control pills and birth control pills magnify any mood problems i have to point where hospitalization is necessary.

Does anyone have any ideas. At this point i'm thinking of trying a progesterone only pill or an all natural hormone balancing supplement. I'm leaning towards the suppliment but don't know which one to try or who to ask.

All this to say. My head is pounding, with a migraine on of the many side effects of hormone troubles, and with anxiety off the charts at the moment.

Sigh. Why to the psychological and the hormonal symptoms have to get all mixed together so i can't tell which to address.

If you know of a good naturopath you can trust to try not to convince you to go off your meds, that is where I would recommend. I am blessed byu a pdoc who is willing to consider natural supplements and yet who will nto let me reason it off into hormones only! :) We also have access rio a very knowledgeable staff at a health food store.

I could speak to you as a person who used to suffer from migraines (especially "at that time of the month") and who no longer does, but I have to be honest...I think there is a difference in our body chemistry and that would really change everything!

The folks who work at a natural food store may have some knowledge of herbs and natural remedies, but mostly they are just grocery employees. They aren't going to know the interactions of the herbs, much less how your meds interact nor how the herbs would interact with your meds!

Thus I would suggest seeing if your doc can recommend an herbologist or naturopathic doctor who can address the PMS/migraine stuff more naturally. Then the two professionals can coordinate to make sure there's no nasty interaction with your meds and herbs! Or at least, nastier than a few cranky days and a migraine!

Ah! No more doctors. I'm all doctor saturated. I just want to take some herbal conconction that will help balance out the hormones. But of course, i would discuss them with my psychiatrist for possible interactions first.
