The fear of the "Unknown" is man's greatest fear. Because he has no control over it.

If death is an "unknown" to you, then it would stand to reason that it would be (one of) your greatest fear(s).

I believe this is why man seeks, or creates for himself, an understanding of death. Man seems to believe that by understanding death (or creating an false understanding) he can somehow conquer/control it. Whether it be through medic (scientific approach) or good life/actions (spiritual approach). Yet the real problem is that man tends to focus on conquering/control...and tries to skip understanding it.

If man truly understood death, then he would know he could not control/conquer it.

I do not fear death.

The is a very interesting poll. I voted for option #3. I have no worries about being dead, but I would prefer not to die a particularly painful or emotionally hurtful death, anymore than I'd prefer not to experience great pain or emotional hurt if I did not die. It's a matter of wanting to avoid the avoidable. Did that make any sense?

I don't have a fear of death, more of a curiousity that borders on morbid. I wonder a lot about what happens after death, and having compared answers from a variety of religions I still don't know. I rarely think about anything after death. Sure, it would be nice to imagine a wonderful place of no sorrows, but I find that unrealistic, just as I can't see a fire and brimstone hell either. I dream a lot of death and see it more like wandering in twilight, somehow like that movie "What Dreams May Come".

I do think about how I will die a lot. I would not like to die violently...frightened, not that anyone would I imagine. I wonder a lot what it feels like to die.

No. I do not fear death.

Actually I welcome it.
I don't want to be on this planet forever. Every time I see the news I want to get out of my country. But unfortunately there is nowhere to go to escape what is happening in the world.

Also I want a martyrs death because in revaltion 6:9 it says

And when the Lamb broke the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of all who had been martyred for the word of God and for being faithful in their witness.
v10 They called loudly to the Lord and said, "O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long will it be before you judge the people who belong to this world for what they have done to us? When will you avenge our blood against these people?"
v11 Then a white robe was given to each of them. And they were told to rest a little longer until the full number of their brothers and sisters--their fellow servants of Jesus--had been martyred.

But for me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

People should be careful what they wish for.

Personally, I have learned not to dwell on a fear of death. Death is a fact of life. Everything dies. And like Stonjie said, I have no intention of living forever. So it is better for one to just accept that one is going to die and live life with a love of life rather live life with a fear of death.

I don't fear death but I don't welcome it either....I have children who would miss me terribly and I believe I still have a lot to learn and teach while I am alive.

When I was little and on into some of my adult life I feared that if I went to sleep I wouldn't wake up again....the fear has left me. Like I said I don't want to die or those around me to die or others because I need them they need me and we need one another to help us live in this insane world...but if God calls us home and need us more I sure won't argue with Him. :)

Love and God Bless all,
Messenger:)

I was afraid of death untill I tried to kill myself one day. Obviously I failed, but ever since then I have thought that if I was gonna do it to myself, why should I be afraid of someone else wanting to do it to me. Not to say that at this point I would welcome death, but if it came I wouldn't be to scared.

I was not able to vote as the poll was closed.

My vote would be both "Yes!" and "I ... fear the event causing my death."

I do not want my one-trip ticket on this planet to end. I am enjoying my brief time here. I am also concerned about how I die. I hope it is a peaceful death.

I would also like to have some foreknowledge of my death. I do not always consciously appreciate the fact that I am alive and it would be nice to have the time to resolve any outstanding personal issues.

Life is a wonderful thing!

I think we all contemplate our mortality.

I used to be very afraid of death and dying. The how and the fact that I had a time limit. I'd like to have all my affairs set in order before I die. I've always believed that if you die before fulfilling your 'purpose' (for lack of a better word), then you'd be reincarnated again and again until you did. Dunno why 0.0

Now though...I either intend to fight death or accept it gracefully. Depends on where I am in life. I hope I'll be ready.
