[QUOTEBattle Hymn of the Republic

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;
He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword;
His truth is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on.

I have seen Him in the watch fires of a hundred circling camps
They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps;
I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps;
His day is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His day is marching on.

I have read a fiery Gospel writ in burnished rows of steel;
“As ye deal with My contemners, so with you My grace shall deal”;
Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with His heel,
Since God is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Since God is marching on.

He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat;
He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment seat;
Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! be jubilant, my feet;
Our God is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Our God is marching on.

In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me:
As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free;
[originally …let us die to make men free]
While God is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! While God is marching on.

He is coming like the glory of the morning on the wave,
He is wisdom to the mighty, He is honor to the brave;
So the world shall be His footstool, and the soul of wrong His slave,
Our God is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Our God is marching on.
You would not believe how many times my family sang that on our '63 trip across the country...we had no radio, so we made our own music....Thanks for the memories!

Sorry, Benadictine,I had to take the link out in order for me to thank you!

Have you heard Mary Mary's version of 'Wade in the water'? One of the best modern versions I think.

I have not but I will check it out when I get home tonight. My favorite version is by jazz pianist Hank Jones. Its on his album "Steal Away" which is entirely classic hymns and spirituals.

Will try and find the Hank Jones album,thanks for the tip:thumbsup:
My earliest memory of a jazz/soul version was the Ramsey Lewis one, quite popular with the 'Mods' over here in the sixties.
Eva Cassidy's version was a minor hit here too a few years back.
All the best.

God bless the music, keep the faith.

Live in Love
We are children of our Father--
We will live in love.
We are free to live like Jesus--
We will live in love.
Living from the inside out
Lives that don't leave any doubt
Love is what we're all about--
We will live in love.

Spreading kindness, seeking peace,
Faithfulness and honesty,
Glad to act unselfishly,
We will live in love.
We will live in love.

We'll forgive and not condemn,
Treating enemies like friends,
Speak each word as unto Him.
We will live in love.
We will live in love.

It's a children's hymn, but the lyrics are lovely.

I’ll Be A Sunbeam
Jesus wants me for a sunbeam,
To shine for Him each day;
In every way try to please Him,
At home, at school, at play.

A sunbeam, a sunbeam,
Jesus wants me for a sunbeam;
A sunbeam, a sunbeam,
I’ll be a sunbeam for Him.

Jesus wants me to be loving,
And kind to all I see;
Showing how pleasant and happy
His little one can be.

A sunbeam, a sunbeam,
Jesus wants me for a sunbeam;
A sunbeam, a sunbeam,
I’ll be a sunbeam for Him.

I will ask Jesus to help me
To keep my heart from sin,
Ever reflecting His goodness,
And always shine for Him.

A sunbeam, a sunbeam,
Jesus wants me for a sunbeam;
A sunbeam, a sunbeam,
I’ll be a sunbeam for Him.

I’ll be a sunbeam for Jesus;
I can if I but try;
Serving Him moment by moment,
Then live with Him on high.

A sunbeam, a sunbeam,
Jesus wants me for a sunbeam;
A sunbeam, a sunbeam,
I’ll be a sunbeam for Him.

And another children's hymn.

Hmm, our toddler Sunday School used this children's hymn as their theme song this year which I rather liked:

God sees the little sparrow fall,
It meets His tender view;
If God so loves the little birds,
I know He loves me, too.
Refrain
He loves me, too, He loves me, too,
I know He loves me, too;
Because He loves the little things,
I know He loves me, too.
He paints the lily of the field,
Perfumes each lily bell;
If He so loves the little flow’rs,
I know He loves me well.
Refrain
God made the little birds and flow’rs,
And all things large and small;
He’ll not forget his little ones,
I know He loves them all.

I think my favorites are: Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence; Come Down O Love Divine; A Mighty Fortress Is Our God; Jerusalem; This Is My Father's World; St Patrick's Breastplate.

I always enjoy the martial sorts of hymns too, perhaps a hold-over from my army days.

1.When I survey the wondrous cross
on which the Prince of Glory died;
my richest gain I count but loss,
and pour contempt on all my pride.

2.Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,
save in the death of Christ, my God;
all the vain things that charm me most,
I sacrifice them to his blood.

3.See, from his head, his hands, his feet,
sorrow and love flow mingled down.
Did e'er such love and sorrow meet,
or thorns compose so rich a crown.

4.Were the whole realm of nature mine,
that were an offering far too small;
love so amazing, so divine,
demands my soul, my life, my all.

So many!

I, The Lord of Sea and Sky
Here I Am to Worship
Remembrance (Matt Redman)
Eventide
Amazing Grace
Nearer My God to Thee (search YouTube for a version by Andre Rieu)
I Am the Bread of Life

There are plenty more but I'd be here all day! One of the great things about playing in a brass band is that we start every practise by warming up with hymns!

We sung this one in church this morning...it has always been my favourite, its called How deep the Father's love for us,

How deep the Father's love for us
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure

How great the pain of searing loss,
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the chosen One,
Bring many sons to glory

Behold the Man upon a cross,
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed I hear my mocking voice,
Call out among the scoffers

It was my sin that left Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished

I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection

Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom
(REPEAT)
