I don't even have to think to get the episode. It is without a doubt "Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space'". Why? I think that this was the one episode that acurately depicted how a paranormal event affects an area. Different people interpret it in vastly different ways, with startling convictions. A lot of weird stuff happens, but none of it seems related. Investigators mess up. Conspiracies are created even when there aren't any. And perhaps most importantly the more one finds out, the less one knows. Truly a masterpiece, and it perhaps captures the idea of the book The Mothman Prophecies better than the movie version of the book did.

The question's simple enough, in its long run what was your favorite episode of the X-Files, and why?

MY fave is DEAD/ALIVE.
If only because its the one I remember the most clearly as I had watched it on DVD a few weeks back. The fact that Dead Alive is on DVD is testament to the fact that its such a good episode.
It ends on a rather ambigious note. If someone is willing to explain the ambiguity of the ending then that'll be much appreicated!

i love the spoof episodes... especially the one where scully is the doctor in the alien autopsy documentary. that was hilarious.
That was "Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space'", which is my favorite episode as well.

"Momento Mori"....great ep. Scully has cancer and she comes to terms with the reality of it.

"Jose Chung From Outer space" - Hilarious!!!!

Another one , but I forget the name of it but someone on there says:

"Yep, that's a bleepin' alien dead body, alright."

I about fell out of my chair when I heard that. :D

Ok, I suck at episode names and don't feel like investigating to make it look like I know but my favs included:

1. The Tooms episodes (the guy who can stretch himself)
2. The one with the grandpa from everyone loves raymond, where he can see people's deaths.
3.The one where they investigate a vampire RV park, with the Wilson Brother in it.

Did you ever see Millennium's Jose Chung's Dooms Day Defense?

That almost makes me wish that I had watched Millenium

I always enjoyed Jose Chung, he seemed to be John Keel if was less a paranormal researcher and theorist, and more a curmudgeon. The trigger event in "Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space'" (the couple encountering a UFO) even comes from The Mothman Prophecies even to the point of the guy delaying in saying his side of the story because of what they were doing on that road (he even says "Her dad would have killed me!" in both places, I think).
