  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Favorite Writers

Iffy--I just bought Flying Closer to the Flame by Charles Swindoll, looking forward to reading it. And Redeemed1, how could I have forgotten one of my favorites----Oswald Chambers---I would have loved to have met him... His devotionals are great as is his other writings. I will be making a wish list of authors and books to pick up. Thanks for sharing!!!

In regards to Christian writers...I love Max Lucado, Charles Swindoll, and Oswald Chambers. Max Lucado is my ultimate favorite though....I've posted a lot of selections of his work on a telnet BBS and many of the selections have spoken very strongly on my heart.

When I want to read other stuff, I enjoy David Eddings (fantasy...a friend from high school got me into his books), Michael Crighton (I started with Jurassic Park, and liked his style), and Robin Cook (who writes medical-type mysteries, which I find interesting).

Some of mine are:

Charles Spurgeon
Arthur Pink
John Mac Arthur, Jr.
J.I. Packer
C.S. Lewis

These men of God have a talent for explaining the complexities of Scripture very simply and thoroughly. Their books are great reads.

Christian authors....Frank Peretti and C.S. Lewis. They convey such awesome images in their writing

Secular authors....Stephen King, Dean Koontz - I just like well written spooky stuff! :) I also like Louis L'Amour. I grew up on his books and the good guy always wins!! And he gets the girl!! :D :D

Voltaire! Just love Voltaire! My favorite is his work called Candide...I highly recommend it! Professor Pangloss has the right way of things...Candide means Optimism and it is really good, easy reading. I am fairly certain that Voltaire loved the taste of chocolate as much as I, he never fails to mention it in his writing...
Zadig by Voltaire is also very good! I recommend anything by Voltaire! He's my favorite...
