Favorite subjects

What subjects do you like taking pictures of? Animals? Still life? Plants? Nature?

I really like taking pictures of animals, even though that's a bit hard to do since they are moving constantly X_X. I go to the zoo at least once a year to give me camera a little extra work out ^^

I love to take photos of anything. I have a class at school that I can do anything I want to do. I take b&w photos and then do cool things to them. My, favorite thing though is probably capturing any movement or action in which I can see God's work. Which is everything!!!!

Don't know what I'll do with them all except I do have plans to compile a book of my churches in my particular county. I'm on the ambitious project to photograph every single church within my county and there are over 140 of them. I have about 118 more to go. lol.


Of course, I especially enjoy taking pics of my family and here is a recent one of my son and his bride on their wedding day. (April 29)

hehehe...I gotta say that the bouquet's doing a reasonable job of covering up the kiss!

I prefer nature photography to anything with movement in it. There's something about capturing that perfect sunrise or sunset that is just breathtaking - I'm hoping to get some snaps of this evening's sunset and will share them with you all tomorrow or Saturday

Odd shapes of things sounds cool. I once saw a slide presentation of Stephen Kirkpatrick, a nature and wildlife photographer, and many of his pictures had the same shape of subjects, which on that particular night were sharp points or spirals. There were sharply pointed trees, land points, beaks of birds, etc., or spirals of vines, bark on a strange looking tree, and just lots of other spirals. I thought it was very interesting.

People. I love getting killer shots of people, capturing a side of them they never knew existed. I love coaching them, getting them to laugh, trying new looks, finding ways to tell them they look great even though they think they are not very attractive. Then I get to prove it to them with the online galleries and slideshows I create for them. They may not believe me when I tell them they look stunning, they may just start to believe it when they see their pictures, but when all their friends go nuts over the images and mom cries then they start to think, "Well maybe I am attractive!" and they smile. It's not about the money - I love getting to work with all different kinds of people. I mean, I still put food on the table with my photography. But I just love working with my clients!

My favorites have got to be senior photo sessions, engagement sessions, and weddings. All three represent significant changes in people's lives, and you can see it in their expressions as the photo session progresses. You can feel the excitement in their spirit as they open up and talk about it with you.

I really like advertising and magazine covers, too. It's a really neat thing when an art director says they want the cover shot to say something very specific, and also scream to consumers "BUY ME! READ ME!". I love that challenge when I work with models or the subjects of feature articles.

I hope I don't come across as egotistical. I just love my job and thank God every day for it. I'm hoping to start traveling for photography jobs, too.

I like taking pictures of sunsets and powerlines, preferably together!

Basically anything outdoors: insects (mainly bees and wasps), flowers, all the crazy creatures I find, cool landmarks around my area that construction/society hasn't discovered yet. I also like scenic pictures during my two favorite seasons, autumn and winter.

Sunsets and powerlines? Wow! Can you show us some?

The bees and wasps must be challenging. ONe day recently I sat on the rocker on the porch and propped my bare feet on the rail of the porch and almost immediately a wasp sat on one of my toes. I froze, of course, because I didnt' want to frighten him, but I also wished for my camera. If you're prepared for those moments they never happen you know.

Definitely nature; I try not to have people at all in my shots. Usually I prefer to shoot wide (18-22mm). I'm also beginning to experiment with macro shots (again, nature).

I like nature pictures: landscapes, anything that attracts my attention. I also take pictures of buildings (old, gothic, Europeany type ones or really unique ones), village scenes, and graveyards and houses of worship. It really depends. If it captures my mind, I like to capture it too (with my camera!)
