• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I like being different:cool:

But honestly, I like Political Satirists who honestly seam to care and have a certain viewpoint.

Otherwise, I like all of them. They all helped me to expand my range of thought........

well, ..... Maybe not so much Neichie(Sp?) I mean, he has had his effect on me but, I found little of his work that inspired me.

From ancient times, mainly Aristotle, Socrates, and Plato. (Though I disagree considerably with Plato.)

From modern times, mainly Ayn Rand, David Norton, Douglas Rasmussen, and Douglas Den Uyl.

Aquinas, Augustine, Aristotle for the old school people . . .

Derrida, Rand, Levi-Strauss, Jung, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Chomsky, Lewis, Campbell, Fry, Flannery O’Conner . . .

The list of newer people I have trouble keeping to strict academic philosophers . . .

Selectsmart.com has two tests that seek to match you up with the philsopher that you agree with most . . . one test is for ethics, the other is for metaphysics

I didnt expect to find a christian whose fave philosopher is Nietzsche, lol. I have been studying Beyond Good and Evil by Nietzsche for a year now for A2 philosophy.....and I have found that it has tested my faith but luckily my faith was strong enough. I dont mind Nietzsche but I really do disagree with most of his theories.

My favourite overall is without a doubt Russel, although it's a bit early to be saying that's never going to change. I'm also rather partial to a bit of Hume, Wittgenstein, Mill and Flew.

Russel is certainly easier to read then the first three on that list. Problems of Philosophy is a lovely little book which should be read by everyone. In Praise of Idleness suits me, too.
