2 and 3 (American).

2 is by far my favorite, but I must admit that 3 (6 japanese) is the best one made. I never cared so much about the characters. The plot was simply amazing, especially having the world be torn asunder and remade in Kefka's image. The affinity I felt for Terra was perfect (I was a young teenager), feeling lost and alone, her character spoke to me. The game felt so epic, this is the game that I hold RPG's up to, and I play many RPGs.

I have always liked IV (II in US). It was the first game I played that had a really great story. I loved the characters and pretty much everything about the game. VI (III in US) was also great. I think VI is so great because of the characters. Same with IV and IX. Not to say VII and VIII are bad, but I think the others just had better characters. X was okay, but not great.

IV is the upmost best. Before fancy-smancy graphics, a good RPG required other things; storyline, plot twists, characters, and history. You can get that quite well in IV.

IMO, people place waaaaaay to much emphasis on graphics (oooo! Look at Sephiroth and that aweome sword!) than on the characters themselves. Ask 50 random people what they like best about FF VII and most will say something about graphics. They ignore character development, storyline, etc, almost completely, and that's a real shame.

It is why I prefer text-based/table-top RPGs like "GemStone IV" and "Dungeons and Dragons" more than the later Final Fantasy games. Materialism isn't the point of the games; its content.

You can try, i'll just get my Baldurs gate 2 level 40 assasin to kick your bumb!

Hide in shadows, then back stab you with my plus 5 long sword, to do about 100 hp damage. Then use the boots of speen to whip round the corner, and place a time stop trap. I will then be able to attack you unhindered for several rounds doing about 20 damage every strike. The total damage being around 60-80. I would then cast a spell to lower your saving throws, before striking you with symbol of death, after making sure you had less than 60 hp's. Killing you in an instant.

I would then resurrect you so I can kick your bumb all over again.

That's a nice plan, but I'm on Level 60 with my ultimate weapons and ultimate Limit Breaks, plus I have 2-3 buddies to back me up. While you're wasting your time on my high HP/defense character (with Counterattack capabilities), my other characters have a number of options: roast you with Firaga/Fire3, simply kill you off with Death, cast zombie on you and "heal" you into oblivion, obliterate every atom of you body with Ultima, or Summon Knights of the Round or Bahamut to obliterate you.

Game Over. Thank you for playing! ;)
