I love all the Reiman Publishing cookbooks....Taste of Home, Taste of the Country, Country Woman, etc. Their recipes are usually down to earth and made with things I have on hand. Almost all my family favorites come from one or another of those cookbooks. I also like to read cookbooks too, as someone before me already said. Margaret (Goatlady)

there was this awesome awesome awesome dessert book at the library that i once got. it had all these unique, complex desserts that were a lot of fun to make. it was called something like "a carnival of desserts". it had this really cool recipe that u put meringue between cake layers and it provided the perfect opposite to the cake as it was crispy and smooth while the cake was really rich.... i wish i could remember the title

These are some of my favorites:
Joy Of Cooking (of course)
America's test Kitchen 2004 and 2005(I highly recommend any of these. They are published by Cook's Illustrated and feature tested recipies of everything from Thai food to Italian).

I recently came across a cookbook that's called "Food That Really Schmecks" (schmecks is a pennsylvania dutch word that means "tastes really really good"! It's filled with tons of relatively easy recipies from mennonite and german backgrounds. It's my new favourite. I just ordered it from Amazon today! (I have to return my library copy soon :()
