My first record set was of the Brandenburg Concertos - Deutsche Grammophon
I'm an avid lover of Johann Strauss Jr. - There's a Russian Men's Chorus version of the Blue Danube that is great, if you like hearing the lyrical version.

Haydn I absolutely love too - you can hear in his works how much fun he had composing. My dream someday would be to conduct his Surprise Symphony. ( I conduct as well as those who play air guitar play the real guitar :) ).

I've always loved Mozart too. Been to Salzburg, seen his birth house, etc.

And then there's Beethoven - powerful, inspiring...

Like Aaron Copeland too, for contemporary masters.

My fav would be the Dvorak's 9th syphony (old #5), and then the 4th movement. I made a video to this one (there may be a very short at before the video plays):

From The New World 4th movement

I'm big on Dvorak. The 9th is terrific, but I actually prefer the 8th.

If I had to pick any favorite classical piece, I would have to cheat and say Beethoven's quartets. Besides being an amazing cycle which shows astounding growth, it also taught me how to "hear" symphonies.

I'm a sucker for a map of artistic growth. Coltrane's body of work is probably the second or third best example we have of such a journey.

I like a lot! Over the last few years I've been listening a lot to Dvorak's New World Symphony, Stravinsky-Petrushka. As I violinist, I've become really fond of Ravel's Piano Trio 1 and then Tzigane has been a favorite since I was a kid.
