  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hopefully there hasn't already been a thread on this, but here goes. Tell your favorite bible verse and then if you want write a couple of sentences about it and what it means to you.

Phillipians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

To me, this means that no matter how hard, how difficult, how much the circumstances are, you can do anything through belief in Jesus Christ and that he is the Lord and Savior. We can do anything because he loves us, dearly. And I forget that sometimes, but this verse helps me remember that.

Greetings Illini Fan,

My Favorite verse(s) must be a toss up, because I can't make up my mind. It is either:

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

OR:

Revelation 22:20-21 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. 21 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

OR

somewhere in between.

Blessings,

Dad Ernie

My current favorite is sort of an obscure verse, Romans 9:15

For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy,
and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”

I see this as pointing out the sovereignty of God, and that he can use the blood of Christ to save whoever he wants.

My Favorite verse is Revelation 3:20, Behold i stand at the door and knock, and if any man hears my voice, and opens the door, i will come in and eat with him, and him with me.
I think it is a metaphor that is really saying something like... ...and opens the door, i will come into his/her heart and live within him/her. I think that is amazing, that The God of the universe living within my heart....

What a great way to bring in my 800th post! My favorite Bible verse is Jeremiah 29:11. This Bible verse has gotten me through a lot and has shown me God's blessing through it. I also love Psalms 139:14, powerful stuff.

"For I know the plans I have for you, Declares the LORD, Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." - Jeremiah 29:11

Psalms 139:14I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

Isaiah 45:3 -- I will give you the treasures of darkness, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the LORD , the God of Israel, who summons you by name.

Matthew 13:52 -- Then He said to them, "Therefore every scribe instructed concerning the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure things new and old."

I like these because they are personal for me; the Lord has spoken to my heart about these......

Howdy Illini Fan,

Greetings.
Acts 3:19-21 (KJV): "19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; 20 And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: 21 Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began."
My favourite is Acts 3:19, and specifically the phrase "the times of refreshing". I consider v21 explains or expands this phrase of refreshing from v19. Living in Australia we are conscious of summer heat and drought. This particular verse came to my attention the severe summer two years ago, when we had drought and many destructive bushfires. By contrast the recent summer has been mild and refreshing and the fruit trees and crops have had the best season for many years.
This "natural" contrast of heat, drought with mild weather, rain, growth, fruit is like the present heat, dryness, wilderness, even fires of our present pilgramge contrasted with the coming blessing when Christ returns to establish his kingdom upon this earth, when he will bring times of joy and peace and righteousness, that is times of refreshing.

Peter when he uses the term "refreshing" alludes to many OT prophecies. One example, David's last words show how his heart was set on this future reign of Christ in 2 Sam.23:3-7:
There shall be a ruler over mankind
A righteous one
Ruling in the fear of God
And as the brightness of the morning
He shall rise the Sun of an unclouded dawn
Shining forth after rain upon
the tender grass out of the earth.

Kind regards
Trevor

3All honor to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, for it is by his boundless mercy that God has given us the privilege of being born again. Now we live with a wonderful expectation because Jesus Christ rose again from the dead. 4For God has reserved a priceless inheritance for his children. It is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. 5And God, in his mighty power, will protect you until you receive this salvation, because you are trusting him. It will be revealed on the last day for all to see. 6So be truly glad! There is wonderful joy ahead, even though it is necessary for you to endure many trials for a while.

7These trials are only to test your faith, to show that it is strong and pure. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold--and your faith is far more precious to God than mere gold. So if your faith remains strong after being tried by fiery trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.

8You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him, you trust him; and even now you are happy with a glorious, inexpressible joy. 9Your reward for trusting him will be the salvation of your souls.

10This salvation was something the prophets wanted to know more about. They prophesied about this gracious salvation prepared for you, even though they had many questions as to what it all could mean. 11They wondered what the Spirit of Christ within them was talking about when he told them in advance about Christ's suffering and his great glory afterward. They wondered when and to whom all this would happen. 12They were told that these things would not happen during their lifetime, but many years later, during yours. And now this Good News has been announced by those who preached to you in the power of the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. It is all so wonderful that even the angels are eagerly watching these things happen. - I Peter 1

hm. i'm norwegian / malagashian, and by that i have no bible in english, so i won't be able to write the verse in english here. but one of my favourite bible verses are proverbs 8:22-31. just READ it! it is absolutely wonderful. you were there when God created the world! and he thought about you when he created it. he created every single hilltop and every flower, just to make you happy. imagine yourself together with God, wandering around and creating everything PERFECT. i love that.

another verse i like is 2 corinthians 12:9 :
ampy ho anao ny fahasoavako; fa ny heriko dia tanterahina amin' ny fahalemena // min nåde er nok for deg, for kraften fullendes i svakhet.
the weaker the better :p the more you trust Him and let Him work through you, the better.

Hi ondry,

You might like this website:

http://www.biblegateway.com/

You can enter in the Bible verse you want to see and it will show it to you in English, in a bunch of different translations as well. I believe there is a Norweigan translation available, too.

Ditto!

I also love Phil 2:9-11

Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name at is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Hi!!

I love reading and sharing verses!

My current fav is Isaiah 53:5-6

"But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all."

And that is why His Name is above all names. Praise and Glory be to Jesus Christ our LORD.
