Wow, I'm quite shocked that Victor Wooten has only been mentioned a few times. I mean, I'm not a bassist, but I have not seen many bassists do what he does. His use of harmonics in Amazing Grace?!

A new guy on the scene: Henrik Linder who plays for Dirty Loops. Very solid and quite creative.

I was surprised to see James Jamerson mentioned by bertolt and NOT Bob Babbit. Hard to mention one with out the other. They played so much alike that a few years after the fact they themselves were hard pressed to say which one of them played on a particular track. Sometimes they both did. They were both big influences on my own playing.

Everyone on the various lists are great but I would like to add a few more:

Jay Truax - LoveSong.
John DeGroff - original bass for Petra
Roger Waters - Pink Floyd
Mel Schacher - ? and the Mysterians, Grand Funk Railroad

I have to add one more: Abraham Laboriel. He did some absolutely amazing bass lines on the Hosanna Integrity recording "Lift Him Up." Here is the song Ancient of Days from that CD. His bass solo starts at 4:15: (1992)

He was also credited by Henri Mancini with coming up with the bass hook line on the theme to "Peter Gunn."(late 1950s)

OK. One name conspicuously missing: Klaus Voorman.
He was the most requested session bass player in Europe for the late 1960s, did work with John Lennon, Ringo Starr and George Harrison, was in the Plastic Ono Band, BadFinger, and Manfred Mann's Earth Band.

A YouTuber Davie504. In my view not only is he just a talented as any other player mentioned in this thread, but more importantly he promotes awareness of the bass as an instrument with over 8 million subscribers. He's very comical in his approach.

No disrespect for Dave504, but I simply cannot get into his sense of humor. I know he's trying to be funny, and I sure to many he is, but for some reason I find his sense of humor off putting.

If you like Youtube bass players, have you perhaps seen Constantine Isslamow?

That's the first person I thought of after reading this thread!

Your video didn't work. So I'm posting another.

The bass solo begins at around 4:17
