  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Most of my favourite artists are from centuries past. I like Esteban Murillo, a Spanish artist from the 1600s, I am a big fan of Frederic Edwin Church who was a painter from the Hudson River School in the 1800s. I also like Charles Demuth from the early 1900s and have a fascination with the art of Titian (Tiziano) from the 1500s. My favourite modern artist... is me! Ha! Not really, but I do enjoy painting.

The thing that bother's me most about Kinkade is that he takes advantage of the masses (who are sadly not so art-savvy) by putting cheap paper prints in his galleries that have only a few highlights of real paint on them (which are not even placed there by the holy hand of Kinkade himself- just some guy in a factory) and charging hundreds or thousands of dollars for them. They're not worth that much. He's more of a man of business than an artist in my opinion. The paintings do have a nice look, which I suppose is really what matters, but Kinkade is just too thievish for me.

I really love William Bouguereau, Jean-Léon Gérôme and Jacques-Louis David (David is famous for the Napoleon painting- the one on the horse). I saw a Bouguereau and a Gérôme last summer at a nearby museum. They were having a huge David exhibit at the time, so I saw several of those too- including the Napoleon. It's huge.

For more recent stuff I like Han-Wu Shen and Frank Frazetta. That's all traditional. There are plenty other artists I like- perhaps I'll gather some links together.

Bouguereau and Gerome were good painters although they tended to specialize in the female figure. I agree about Kinkade. But, then again, people like it. What is art? If people like it, it is art for them. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
