  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Listen guys-- this is exactly the type of thing satan glorifies in- this divisiveness, people getting upset and losing their peace. As Catholics we have the One True Faith- we must not be accomplices by our silence-- but we must also NOT LOSE PEACE over this or any issue.

"Do not lose your peace for anything whatsoever, even if your whole world seems upset. Commend all to God, and then lie still and be at rest in God's bosom.... Whatever happens, abide steadfast in a determination to cling simply to God; trusting to God's eternal love for you."- St. Fracis de Sales

We know the Lord triumphs- let's offer His Heart back to Him to conquer this, fully confident in His ability to take care of everything, and then be at peace......

Ephesus would be a great choice, for a lot of reasons. Just FYI...there is considerable jostling for position and prestige between the various Fatima apostalates and Medugorje, site of more recent apparitions. Not to begin a Medugorje debate, but it should be factored in where this ecumenical impulse is coming from. There is considerably more shall we say "embracing thought on ecumenism" going on in Medugorje than with the Fatima folk.

Aside, The Gospa, the Croatian name for Our Lady, was asked who in the village most represented the Christian ideal. She named a lady everyone knew, but there was a scandal. The lady was Muslim. At the beginning of the apparitions in 1981, Muslims lived side by side with Christians quite peacefully in Bosnia and in Medugorje, a Croatian Catholic border village. When pilgrims came, old animosities flared up and most Muslim families moved away.

Which doesn't really matter as the Church has condemned those apparitions....

The church has not condemned the apparitions in Medugorje. The Holy Father's position is quite clear, "Let them go there and pray."

We are allowed to pray anywhere, that doesn't mean that the Church has said that Mary is appearing there and revealing "truths" that are contrary to the Faith.... I won't say any more this is a topic I have researched, prayed over, and received Spiritual Direction about-- I will just say that Satan used Scripture to tempt Jesus- Satan uses things which mirror Truth to lead us astray....

May as well have our facts straight. The Church has NEVER said Mary appeared anywhere. Fatima, Lourdes, none has a piece of paper on the wall from Rome saying Mary was here. They will, however, condemn private revelation if something is contrary to the teaching of the church.

This is not the case in Medugorje; no pronouncement has been made by the Bishops. It is still under consideration.

Mary NEVER reveals theological truths. Private revelation is not a legimate source of theology. The Faithful are free to believe or not to believe. It is that simple.

True but the Church hasn't condemned, they've just not given any "support" or validation of them. They advise caution.

Do you see how easily it happens-- here I post a call to confidence in the Triumph of the Sacred Heart and then I fall pray to encouraging more devisiveness.....

I'll repost and then keep my mouth shut!

Hey Shannon. I agree with you that we must not lose peace. Father Gruener is calling for Catholics to pray over this. I only wanted to convey the seriousness of the situation to garner prayer. My trust is firmly in the Lord. So although I shall watch how this unfolds, I will be praying earneslty as well. May I ask that my brothers and sisters in Christ join me as well in prayer?

Has there been any discussions here on those who are trying to make the Fatima Shrine an ALL faiths Shrine? Is anyone else following what Father Gruener has been trying to say?

IIRC Gruner has been excommunicated or close to it so who cares what he says? This is not the Church talking.

When did the Church condemn medjigori?

It never has. Interestingly, the Conference of Bishops of (former) Yugoslavia which would have made such a decision, not Rome, was ready to pronounce on Medugorje in 1991. Before they could do so the war broke out.

I am not a defender of Medugorje, per se. Just of the truth. I dislike reading posts that make a declarative statement when the writer has no idea what they are talking about. There is a lot of that around CF.

Regarding Fr Gruner. He is under a divinis suspension and considered materially schismatic. I take no position on him, these are the facts. If someone wants to learn about Fatima, personally I would suggest Fr Robert Fox's apostolate.

"The news, which provoked strong reactions on the users of the Internet (those who sought us out were approximately one hundred), claims that, at the inspiration of delegates from the U.N. and from the Vatican and also according to statements from the Rector of the Shrine, Fátima "is to be developed into a centre where all the religions of the world will gather to pay homage to their gods". Furthermore: "The future of Fátima, or the adoration of God and His Mother at this holy Shrine, must pass through the creation of a shrine where different religions can mingle". And that's not all, listen: "The Shrine of Fátima is about to undergo a complete reconstruction with a new stadium-like basilica being erected close by the existing one built in 1921”.

There is a clear difference between welcoming other faiths to come and worship and celebrate in Fatima, and quite another to " be developed into a centre where all the religions of the world will gather to pay homage to their gods". Sorry, we don't build sites for pagans or heretics, and this seems like liberalism in the Church to me.

I agree with every word you posted. Fr. Fox is great, BTW.

I cannot lie I have a big problem with this if it turns out to be true. This is what sparked my odd behavior yesterday in the other thread (everyone probally knows which one I am talking about)
