  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My dear friends, I did not post this topic to make any one feel bad. I do apologize if I have caused this. My concern is for the sacredness of this Shrine, and how to preserve it. Father Gruener is the man in charge of leading the fight against making the Shrine an all faiths worship. I have much of his material sent to me on a monthly basis. Our prayers are desperately needed.

I feel that the Ultra-trads may be spinning this thing into more than it really is. There does seem to be a plan for some sort of welcoming area for people of other faiths in a new worship building near the existing basilica. That doesn't constitute "Turning Fatima into an inter-faith worship centre". However it should ring some warning bells.

There are people in the Church who seem attracted to the all-faiths are the same arguments

I know Fr. Gruner very well and can assure you that he is a very devout, traditional (not tradionalist) priest. He is sincere but many of his opinions are rather obtuse. His criticisms of Pope John Paul seem extremely disrespectful to me. He was suspended (a divinis) by the Holy See two and half years ago for reasons unconnected with the ecumenical shrine.

I think that they should choose another place for such a center and the nature of the facilities there should be stated very carefully. In principle, I agree with the concept of ecumenical dialogue and even careful joint-prayer, but if the Lefty elements insists on extravagant language, I couldn't support it.

Fatima does not seem like the right place for this. Even though the place name comes to us from the daughter of Mohammed himself, the Iberian Peninsula suffered greatly during centuries of Islamic oppression and the people there could easily take this as an insult to their historic struggle to free themselves from the Moorish yoke.

Ephesus would be a better venue, imo. Mary is the only woman mentioned in the Koran and she is mentioned 38 times at that. There is already a Catholic Shrine there at the place where she lived w/ St John. Thousands of Moslems visit there every year. If it still exists as a Christian-Moslem shrine (i.e. has not been completely taken over by Turkey), it might be a better place.

I like to stick by this. I'm going to wait for the bombs in a second.

Pope Pius rightly insisted, "unity can only arise from one teaching authority, one law of belief, one faith of Christians". Pope Pius also wrote that the "fair and alluring words" of the pan-religious orientation "cloak a most deadly error subversive to the Catholic Faith".
