  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What is wrong with admitting that you are fasting? It could lead to a good conversation on the spiritual benefits that you see.

Otherwise there is nothing wrong with a polite "no thank you". You do not have to give them a reason, if they push then you could tell them you are fasting or just, "no thank you, I am fine".

I don't think the intent is to keep it a secret in that manner. I believe the intent of the scripture is to avoid making a show out of it, to boastfully show how holy we are, to make it seem we are better than others. That is what we want to avoid. But answering a question or such is OK, especially to avoid having to lie.

We are not to make a spectacle out of fasting because at that time (and still) some people would put on a great show of how they were fasting, how holy it made or makes them. But answering a simple question is not the same thing.

Christian,

I'm sorry to hear you're being tempted during your fast. Given the popularity of keto and similar systems, fasting is fairly commonplace. If you're uncomfortable divulging the reasons for the fast. You can say you're doing a cleanse. Most will understand what that means.

Yours in His Service,

~Bella
