• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

it is very good for the soul
the reason for it is to help seperate yourself from desire for earthly things and help you focus on desire for God

take it slow, do not over do it and hurt yourself or focus too much on the act that you loose focus on God

is there a more mature Christian who you trust and knows you very well who can help guide you? that would be the best.
if you do not have anyone like that in your life, i would recommend start with giving up little things and use that time to pray, read the Bible, or do good works

I don't want to hijack this thread with my own question, but doesn anyone know how widely this is practiced? Virtually none of the christians I know have ever done it (at least, not that I know of). Then again, I guess Jesus did tell us that this is something that should be done in secret and not displayed to the world to show off, like the Pharisees did.

I'm personally considering this, but there are of course health factors that have to be considered, we have to be realistic about this of course.

*When we looked for a church we wanted one that had some mature
Christians in it. I've heard many talk of doing a fast and or fasting.
We have folks who go on their own mission trips (they pay their own way.)
We have folks who have their own local outreach to folks here in town etc.

A fast doesn't have to be for a long period of time and it doesn't even have
to be about excluding food...some give up TV, internet for a week and focus
on bible studies, prayer, singing of gospel songs, writing spiritual poems etc.

I did something quite smilar to this. I didn't choose to give up food, because that wasn't the issue for me. I will say this, it really does get your focus on other things. If you need a focus change in your life, I highly encourage a fast of whatever it is you may be focusing on that might be taking your focus off of God.
